Overview
Students heard from different members of the firm, who provided insights into DLA Piper's pro-bono work, diversity and inclusion, training contract, and application process. The 'Demystifying Law' session helped students understand the fundamental functions of law firms. Each day of the programme also had a spotlight session on trainees who shared their personal journies through their legal careers. Students were also introduced to the Deal Spotlight Activity on the first day.
Skills
During the Deal Spotlight Activity, evaluating the risk of the client's transaction based on previous commercial news surrounding the client's/target's company developed my analytical skills. The email drafting task in the Activity also enhanced my ability to deliver concise and coherent advice to the client. Finally, the opportunities to ask questions throughout the Programme developed my communication skills in a virtual setting.
Business Insight
It was an invaluable opportunity for me to gain an in-depth understanding of the law firm market and what the role of a commercial lawyer involves on a day-to-day basis. The Programme helped me feel more informed about the industry that I wish to work in.
Culture
The Programme truly demonstrated the firm's friendly and inclusive culture - we were welcomed from the very start till the end of the Virtual Insight Programme.
