Role Description

The Herbert Smith Freehills First Year Workshop included informative talks from partners, interactive workshops based on Alternative Dispute Resolution and Application Skills, and networking with current trainees.

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The First Year Workshop overall was an immersive experience into what working at Herbert Smith Freehills is like. Through the interactive Alternative Dispute Resolution Workshop and Corporate Case Study, I was able to learn more about the work the firm takes part in, and the role of trainees.

  • I have learned various new skills - how to critically analyse case studies, work with others to present ideas, and also how to network in a professional setting.

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was a very nice experience to learn more about the firm first hand, as the firm's website only tells you so much. I found out the exact numbers of vacation scheme places available, more about Herbert Smith Freehills' clients and how the firm operates as a business.

  • I really enjoyed the insight scheme - I was able to tell how much effort was put into preparing it and I appreciated that. It has urged me to apply for their Winter Vacation Scheme.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Herbert Smith Freehills
  • I would advise others of the competitiveness, and also that they need to be very prepared for the assessment centre. There are only 30 places on each vacation scheme, which can be daunting to some. Also, the interview process is very vigorous, so it is necessary that you are ready.
