On the programme we were provided with market and financial product training provided by AMT Training for the first couple of days. These classes were there to cement our understanding of Markets, financial terminology and financial products. On the first day we also were provided with a DebateMate session to help improve our communication skills throughout the spring week. There were also various insight talks exposing interns to the different divisions at JPM as well as plenty interactive case studies and networking opportunities to get involved in. There was also plenty of time for Q&A’s at the end of talks and during the networking sessions.
I have bettered my communication skills and how I present myself in a virtual space. I have increased my ability to network from speaking with multiple interns and JPM Representatives from the London, Bournemouth, Madrid, Brussels, Paris and New York Office. I also improved my problem solving and teamwork skills when participating in interactive case studies and discussions surrounding issues of M&A, a Credit Risk game, evaluating the impact of the US stimulus package and a discussion on technology impacting the payments industry.
It was a highly exciting and invigorating experience seeing how multiple divisions function within the firm during talks and interacting with those in multiple roles within JPM during the networking sessions via Zoom breakout rooms. It was great hearing from people of various levels in the firm from Analyst, Associate, VP, MD and ED level. Analysts provided us with a great recent perspective of their pathway into JPM and the early years in their graduate programme. Similarly, I thoroughly enjoyed the Senior Networking session where I was able to have a great discussion about the JPM Real Estate division in New York. It seems there are multiple roles at JPM and there's a place for everyone whatever background you may be from or what skillsets you may have.
The company culture is very welcoming. Every person I spoke to said the people is what makes working at JPM worth it and I could sense that when speaking to JPM Representatives in networking sessions and connecting with them on LinkedIn. They are highly supportive of growth and answering your questions and despite me not even working at the firm, every person was super accessible and easy to talk to during the virtual spring week.
I really enjoyed the insight. I learnt so much about the financial industry, J.P. Morgan and met so many amazing people. It was action packed and exposed me to so many different areas and the connections I made were really great. There are so many divisions offered at J.P. Morgan it is hard to narrow down to one. I loved learning about different financial concepts and how mentally stimulating the insight was; being able to apply real life examples of Deliveroo IPO’s or the impact of bitcoin was a really good time to learn and hear perspectives from interns and JPM Representatives. I also enjoyed winning the Credit Risk game with my team. Overall, a really enjoyable experience.
