Communications and PR Undergraduate Review

Supporting the team with all VWFS internal communications activity, from our company intranet to delivering colleague events. Maintaining a detailed annual communications plan, to keep the team focused and delivering at pace and on time. Writing and distributing internal communications and working on employee engagement campaigns. Providing creative and logistical support for all communications and engagement activities to the wider business. Support with logistics and preparations for internal events and stakeholder meetings including creating slides and materials. This includes creating all promotional material and filming/editing any post event videos. Liaise with key stakeholders in the business to help share desired messages with our colleagues, whether it’s about an IT system upgrade or how to book holiday. Manage analytics and reporting on the effectiveness of how we communicate our messages to the business and make recommendations for improvements in order to increase employee awareness and engagement. Play a lead role in Marketing and Innovation team engagement and development activities. Act as the communications lead for our corporate LinkedIn account, managing what content goes on it and seeking appropriate approvals.

Have improved my attention to detail and written skills massively. I have learnt different techniques for employee engagement within a large organisation and a good improvement of time management.

I work on one main project, the internal newsletter, and mainly support the team where I can with other projects. The responsibility has been given and I always feel the team would support me and give guidance to deliver my project.

There has been lots of support and guidance, my whole team have been supporting my development and other undergraduates have also been a good support during the year.

It is hard for me to comment as we as a team are constantly evaluating the culture and finding ways to change/improve this. I would say colleagues are well supported and enjoy interacting with other colleagues from the business, whether that is sharing personal stories or embarking on physical activities.

It has been an invaluable experience and a constant learning curve. I have been given key projects and shared knowledge to enhance my career development in the future. I will be taking so much away from this placement and it has given me a platform to enter my next job with confidence.

Take on as many projects/tasks as you can to immerse yourself within the business and develop your learning to a good level. Interact with colleagues and don't be afraid to ask questions as everyone is very helpful. Keep up good communication with your team as they are you best mentors for learning all that you can over the course of the year.
