    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The two day program included a session on how markets and IB differed, the various divisions within IB, how to network, particularly online, and then tips on how to apply to later internships.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The networking session was particularly useful as it gave concrete tips on how to stay in touch and maximise any connections made. The specific emphasis on virtual networking was especially pertinent for trying to find employment during a period of lockdown.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • There were several sessions which went very in depth into, firstly, how markets and investment banking differed. I was on the investment banking track hence was then able to attend further lectures on how IB was split within the bank itself, play by plays of how the different divisions interacted and Q&A with current employees on areas they found most interesting or challenging.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • As this internship was virtual, this was perhaps more difficult to gage than usual. However, overall, everybody seemed very polite, welcoming and professional. I was surprised at the warmth of most employees considering the cut-throat reputation investment banks tend to receive.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight thoroughly. I particularly found the one-on-one networking sessions the most rewarding, as well as the group research exercise.

  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan
  • Diversity of background seemed to be the most important; while everyone was of course intelligent and motivated, the bank genuinely seemed to value individuals coming from different perspectives. Thus, even if you don’t think you would get in, it is well worth applying. The second trait HR seemed to like was having language skills.
