Role Description

Working directly with clients to help uncover commercial insight and strategic direction.


  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working directly with clients to provide insights and actionable recommendations, utilising our panel of data to uncover commercial insight and direction for the largest retailers in the country. This comprises working with vast data sets, pulling together reports and leading various ad-hoc work and presentations for clients.


  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Not only has this placement profoundly developed my Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills, but also my understanding and ability to interpret data and complex charts efficiently. Moreover, the client facing aspect of my role is one which I have particularly enjoyed. Being constantly involved in client conversations, and even running these meetings myself, are levels of responsibility that I was not expecting to be granted prior to joining the company.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • As time has gone on, I have gained levels of responsibility that I was not expecting to be granted prior to joining the company. I command responsibility of a number of different client relationships, and have lead multiple pieces of work, including the presentation of my findings. As my time at Kantar progresses, I will continually acquire increasing responsibility for handling these client relationships and projects, whilst my development during this time will be constantly evaluated.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Hierarchal structures are fundamental in any successful company, and Kantar is no exclusion to this. However, the openness of those in more senior positions has really stood out to me as a defining feature of a company with great people. Those just above me are always there for day-to-day questions and more than happy to help.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The people at Kantar have furthered my enjoyment for the role. Working with such young and like-minded colleagues around me is one aspect of the company which I have been fortunate to experience. Though more senior members of the team are older, those working with me on a day-to-day basis are no older than 30. When I have had a chance to meet socially with my team, this has been a bonus.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Embarking on a placement year in 2020 was never going to be a typical placement experience. Working from home for the past five months has been both challenging and gratifying, and certainly an experience I have been able to take great profit from. At Kantar, I think they have done a good a job as any company could have done to ensure I have enjoyed my time.

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Kantar Worldpanel
  • Logical thinking, and a general grasp of understanding charts and data quickly is a good start. Broader thinking outside the box, and beyond any initial question will get you far. Enthusiasm and keenness is the most important.
