    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was very enjoyable. I met so many special people, who I know for a fact I will keep in touch with and I got to step out of my comfort zone and learn and develop new skills. The people definitely made the experience for me. There was a great work/life balance where I was able to socialise during lunch and after work. I was also given the responsibility I don't think I would be given anywhere else.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my team and senior management. Egress is unique in the way that I was treated as if I was a full time member of staff, not a placement student. As I was the first placement student for my role, everyone in my team made me feel included as well as other people in the company being extremely welcoming.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt that I always had the support when necessary. My manager was extremely supportive and we would always have weekly 121's to make sure I can get feedback/provide updates on ongoing projects. Also, I felt that I was given the support to make a wider impact on the business by taking on projects for senior management.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were busier than some, but there was a decent balance. However, there was not a day where I didn't have something to do, even if I was not that busy I would take on additional projects/tasks and ask my manager if there was anything that needed doing. Periods like end of quarter could be overwhelming at times, but it was nice to have he support of my team when needed.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I had taken on lots of projects where I made a difference in the business in terms of driving sales systems and processing. Also, I was the point of authority who sales/other departments came to for help. As well as this, I reported to senior management where I had ongoing projects with them as well. I was even able to attend a board meeting to show my work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills that I have gained and enhanced have helped me academically as well as professionally. I believe that this foundation will help me build my future career and job prospects. The training that I have received and the exposure to other departments in the business will definitely assist me for my career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great. Egress is a 'work hard, play hard' environment. Therefore, as well as working you are able to socialise and take a break to speak to your other colleagues. It was a good balance between being relaxed and hard working.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall, It was set up well. However, since I was the first placement for my role there was no defined responsibility. Having said that, I was able to use this to my advantage to get what I wanted out of my placement year.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In terms of personal training and development, my manager invested a lot time in for me, to make sure that I got what I wanted out of my placement year. As mentioned above, reporting to senior management helped me develop skills I wouldn't be able to anywhere else.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is a chance of a graduate prospects with the organisation. Egress like to have their placements come back, as long as you can show that you are capable and perform to the best of your ability.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was brilliant. All of us placement students got on really well and I have definitely made friends for life, wee were very tight-knit. We used to socialise and go out a lot and it was nice to have other people going through the same experience as you.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the job was in central london, the cost of living and working is high. I was one of the only people who moved to central london as I wanted to live the london life. I don't have any regrets though! With the salary and paying rent as well as other expenses such as travel, it is manageable. Although it can get much at times.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Couldn't be better, most people were up for a drink on a friday and with the office being in shoreditch- there are so many cool bars and restaurants to try out.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a fair amount. The company had monthly socials which I used to regularly attend and it was nice to have a bit of fun after work. I do wish there was a chance to be able to play other sports.
