  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was very enjoyable. Very well organised and satisfying.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My mentor and manager were very respectful, helpful and communicative people. I have learned a lot from them and it was most definitely very valuable experience. My other intern teammates were very nice as well and we worked together with no problem. I even made some friends there, so most definitely felt valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given great support and guidance by managers, supervisors and mentors.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were very busy , but most were very balanced, with enough room to do work, research on technologies, learn, grow.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given enough responsibility to do my own individual tasks, and also as a team member I took initiative in different phases of the development lifecycle of the project.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Most definitely the skills developed will assist me in studies and future work, I gained a lot more awareness of how things are done and I feel more comfortable in what I do.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a remote internship due to Covid-19, however the atmosphere was brilliant and many times better than what I expected before the internship started. J.P. Morgan is a very big company and very well organised, they did amazing organising a first ever virtual internship programme, a lot of engagement, very friendly people, the zoom events/seminars were good quality. Very fun, honest and motivating. My teammates and mentors/supervisors/manager were very friendly, smart, helpful and interesting people.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As mentioned in the previous comment, the overall work was very well organised. I had a calendar, I knew exactly what I had to be doing, meetings were good. Everyone very responsive. It is very obvious they work hard to create this experience to be as valuable as being in the office. I do wish I was able to be in the office and work on real company projects, but I did have the opportunity to discuss and see examples of the work my mentors did in their own teams.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invests in personal training and development a lot. But it is also a mutual process, the individual needs to be interested and wants to use the resources and gain from the internship. We had access to a platform called Secure Code Worrier, which was a great platform to learn about software security and this year at university I have a Secure Development module, having learned more about security concepts during the internship definitely helps me in this module now.

  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. Stable job and a very good company that values your work. I got a job offer after completing the internship and I am very excited about this opportunity. Employment prospects are good within the company and they really do care about your interest and which team you would be a better fit for, as they have different teams that do different things and that provides exciting opportunities and prospects within the organisation overall.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene amongst students and colleagues. Everyone was social, fun, definitely obvious that they wanted to learn and were respectuful. As students we would organise quizzes over zoom to socialise, we were encouraged to talk to other people and get to know them so most fellow students were responsive. There were also events organised by the company that were meant for socialising, there were recruiter office hours and we had the opportunity to talk to them as well. The recruiters were very social and very supportive and providing good guidance at all times.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Considering that it has been a remote internship, the costs were none. But if there was not a global pandemic, the internship was set in Glasgow, Scotland, so the city is average/above average in terms of costs of living and socialising. The city is great and Highlands are near so always an opportunity to go in nature on weekends or near other beautiful cities such as Edenborough. Glasgow is a very very good location and has the best of both worlds, it's not too big of a city, but also not too small.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very hard to leave a comment on this question, because due to covid, most places were closed. However I have lived in Glasgow for a few years now and nightlife is good, depending on the person and if they want to go out at night. Everyone has different interests and preferences, but there are lovely bars and restaurants around town, cinemas and other things that people can do on a night out and most definitely enjoy. It's never dull.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As previously mentioned, due to the global pandemic, there were not many opportunities for activities outside of work, but in Glasgow, there usually are a lot. I usually go cycling, play tennis in the tennis courts in Kelvingrove park, go hiking in the highlands as well. There are many things to do in this city and country, so most definitely there are many opportunities, during more normal times when there is not a global pandemic happening.
