    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Due to Covid-19 my internship was completed virtually and I was so impressed with the quality of the programme considering how quickly it had to change. We were constantly busy and engaged with multiple projects and tasks and still had great opportunities to network with many people within the company. The managers and project advisors we worked with were so helpful and engaging and made the experience even more enjoyable and fulfilling. I was also working along an amazing team of interns which definitely added to the enjoyment of the programme.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got to know the interns I was working with very quickly even in the virtual environment and we quickly developed and friendly and respectful relationship with each other. I felt I could go to them with any issues and that they valued my input. We also had opportunities to meet with interns on the same and different programmes and it was a very friendly and supportive environment. It felt like we were all there to help each other throughout the course of the internship rather than competing with each other.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Our supervisor met with us every day and gave us great feedback on how we were working together as a group and how to add value to our presentations. She was our go to person for any issues we were having and if we needed and support completing our work. Our managers met with us twice a week to give us invaluable feedback on how we were performing individually and also to offer advice on how to run and improve our projects.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We had two large projects to work on that took up the majority of our days. Alongside this we also had compulsory and optional training giving us the opportunity to learn more about particular areas that interested us. We also had talks for multiple senior speakers and then opportunities to ask these speakers questions. We had talk about the CADP programme if we were to be offered a place and talk from multiple grad scheme student offering their insights and experiences. On top of this we had the opportunity to network with as many people as we could.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As it was all online we weren’t given any business as usual tasks and so didn’t have a huge amount of responsibility in terms of jobs that we could potentially be doing if we worked for J.P Morgan. Our main responsibility was within our social good project where it was our job to find a solution to some of the issues that a non profit organisation. We get a responsibility to them to offer the best solution to help them improve the way they were operating.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This term I have a project where I am working with the met office and a large area we are assessed on is our project management and organisational skills. Having completed two significant projects at J.P Morgan I have learnt many transferable skills particularly in the way they like to run and organise their projects and I have already started to put many of these techniques into use. I have also greatly improved my confidence and communication skills which has helped with group projects.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Due to Covid-19 we were unable to go into the office as it was not considered the safest option for us and so everything was completed in an online environment so it is more difficult to comment on this. The environment that was created for us online though was very professional but also extremely friendly and supportive. The general atmosphere between the interns was that we were all there to help each other succeed rather than trying to make ourselves look good at the other interns expense.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was extremely impressed with how well organised the internship was considering they only had a few months to completely recreate the way in which it was run to make it suitable to be completed online. There were constant communications with us to ensure that we knew exactly what we were meant to be doing and there was never a time when we were bored or had nothing to do. We had lots of tech Support and set up instructions to help us transition to the online format

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had lots of online training to complete in the form of videos and mini assessments as well as live training which was extremely valuable. We had expert support and advise from senior managers and a lot of time was invested in giving us valuable feedback to help support our growth even during the short time that we were at the firm. We were given key skills that we were asked to demonstrate and improve during the internship.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a grad scheme starting in the summer if 2021 based off my performance during the summer internship. After my experience during the internship I am extremely excited to start working for the firm and I hope it will be an exciting and rewarding experience. I feel very lucky that I was able to take part in the internship and that I am now in a strong position in my final year of uni having a grad scheme waiting for me when I finish.
