    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • The virtual internship was a great experience for me. I had great opportunities to network with an extensive group of people. I received thorough training before and during my internship that helped me to learn as much as possible throughout. I also had the opportunity to practice my presentation skills with a case study throughout the internship, this helped me to put my training and my new skills to work. Overall, I found the internship to be extremely rewarding and insightful.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • J.P. Morgan made a great effort during the internship to make everyone feel extremely welcome. Although the internship was virtual, we were still able to receive high quality training, listen to senior speakers and network with our team. Upon starting work on my desk I was instantly introduced to the whole team and welcomed with great events such as cooking classes, quizzes, virtual escape rooms and one on one catch ups with everyone. I definitely felt extremely welcome!

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • I received an extensive amount of guidance and support during the internship. I was provided with a buddy who was there at all times to answer any questions I may have about what life is like at J.P. Morgan and about technical things I may not have understood. I was also provided with a senior mentor who was there to answer all my questions about the career path that J.P. Morgan could provide me with.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills I learned have helped me a lot going forward. In university, I am now more confident and critical of my own presentations- whether that’s with my own speaking or with my formatting. Coming from a non finance background I also had the ability to learn a lot of new skills I would never have had the chance to learn in University! I now understand so many financial concepts that I had never heard of before the internship!

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The internship had a great structure. Prior to beginning the internship we were able to do online courses to help prepare for the training. We began the internship with a week of training that was extremely useful for developing the skills needed for the internship such as PowerPoint and excel. We were also introduced to new softwares that would help throughout the internship such as factset and Bloomberg. Finally, we were on the desk for 4 weeks with training scheduled throughout the internship.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • Although the internship was in a virtual environment, there was still a great environment to ask questions and get to know all the teams. The interns were introduced to many different sections of the company and were shown how to get involved in many different ways. Although I was disappointed not to be in person I was glad that J.p. Morgan was able to make the most of the time we had and make it a great experience!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Coming from a non-finance background I had a lot to learn at the beginning of the internship. I was originally sent courses in order to help me throughout the internship and then I received thorough training throughout. I was also provided with a buddy to ask questions to and I was encourage to reach out to my team with any questions I had. My entire team were extremely willing to answer any and every question I had

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Due to the virtual nature of the internship it was difficult to get a full idea of what it would be like with the company. Thankfully we were able to work on some projects closely with our team and we were able to work on a case study that was similar to what we would have been doing if the internship was in person. I was also happy that I got to meet my entire team

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The virtual internship truly did help me understand the company culture. I believe that the social events helped to see how the team interacts and it shows that they were eager to spend time around one another. The company was also extremely welcoming at the beginning and gave us the opportunity to interact with senior executives in the company and network with them. We were able to listen to talks from many of the important people in the company

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The internship helped me to confirm which career path I wanted. It gave me the opportunity to delve into the world of investment banking and see if I enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to work on exciting projects and meet many of the people I would be working with in the future. This helped me to make my decision about what I wanted to do with my career in the future and I am grateful for it

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid my entire salary that I originally expected for the summer despite the fact that it was in a virtual environment and the internship was shortened. I was also reimbursed for any expenses I may have had due to cancelling flights or cancelling a booking on my accommodation. I was then able to use this money to help me improve my wifi for the virtual nature of the internship and to find a second monitor to use.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We were provided with many opportunities to network with others in the firm. From the first day we were able to listen to senior executives and ask them questions about their careers and their choices. This continued throughout the internship. We were also able to network with the other interns through social events and with our team through one on one catch ups and through meeting them during zoom calls and social events that were organised

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The social events were very well organised and were very effectively run through zoom this year. I had a great opportunity to get to know my team through a cooking class at the beginning of my internship and this was a great way to break the ice. We also participated in a virtual escape room on zoom, table quizzes and through many zoom calls together. The analysts also organised more informal drinks for us all.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Given the virtual nature of the internship it was more difficult to see what the others on my team would get up to with the company. However we did hear about opportunities with different groups within the form such as the LGBTQ and the women’s groups that were there to support any of the workers. We also had the chance to learn about a lot of the facilities that were in the office that we could avail of

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this experience to a friend. I thoroughly enjoyed myself throughout the internship and it was a great experience. I had the opportunity to learn as much as I could in a short period of time, learn about what I wanted in my career in the future and do this whilst having a lot of fun and meeting a lot of new people! I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family
