    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight programme. We were able to cover the three main divisions as well as have an informative panel sessions. This meant that any queries we had got answered. The insight programme was virtual due to Covid, however it was adapted in a way that was still valuable. I think the fact that it was a new topic and agenda each day meant that it was engaging and enjoyable as you were learning something new everyday.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I definitely felt valued to an extent due to the post-spring week opportunities. There were further panels and we also got priority screening for the summer analyst position. These were really useful as anything that was covered in the allocated week was covered in the further panel sessions. I think due to the virtual nature, perhaps I didn't feel as valued as what I would have done during an in person experience where we would be assigned actual work, however this is to be expected given the virtual nature.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We received a lot of guidance and support in that we could ask any of the questions we had as we went along. Not only did we get support from the staff but as a spring cohort we helped each other. I was also given the opportunity to speak to a recruiter and ask specific questions I had 1-to-1. This was really helpful and perhaps less daunting than asking in front of the whole spring cohort.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained a lot of knowledge of the industry that I didn't have before such as an in depth insight into Investment Banking, Global Markets and Asset Management. I found that some of the content overlapped with my Economics degree which was really useful as I learnt how to link my degree to the industry more. As well as this, I gained skills that will help me in future application processes such as CV and Cover letter skills and how to approach the specific stages of recruitment as J.P. Morgan e.g. pymetrics.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was really well structured with a clear agenda for each day and allocated slots for breaks. I think with the virtual nature it can perhaps be a bit tricky to stay focused, however the frequent breaks meant that we could take some time and come back ready to start again. The agenda helped structure the day really well and allowed us to prep for the sessions beforehand and hence make the most of them.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was great as it was clear that the speakers were eager to teach us and the participants were eager to learn. The speakers were all very friendly and happy to answer any questions. I would say that perhaps the atmosphere would have been better if there were allocated slots to interact with other participants face to face. However, as a cohort we overcame this by having a groupchat where we could talk to each other about any queries we were facing.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think I gained a lot of skills and knowledge that helped my personal development and training, going forward in the industry. This included expert knowledge of divisions. They also invested in us through the fact that by being a Spring Week participant, you are given priority screening. This shows that as they have already invested in us, they are more likely to invest in us in the future, making the experience and application process feel worth while.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight definitely gave an insight into what it would be like to have a full time role with the company. Speaking to employees and their experience helped to give a realistic insight into typical days at the firm including working hours and the type of work to expect. I think perhaps a better insight would have been given if we could see this first hand in person at the bank, but given the nature we still got a great insight.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I definitely gained an insight into the culture at the firm and this truly comes across through speaking to employees and their experiences. Many of them highlighted their positive experiences at the bank, giving evidence to the values on the company website! I think once again, it would have been a different experience if it was in person, in that we would be able to experience the positive culture in person, however it was still very useful.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was definitely very useful. The fact that we went over the three main divisions meant that we could properly gain an insight and see which division sparked particular interest. For me personally, I learnt that I am especially interested in the Investment Banking Division and the aspect of dealing with clients and establishing and maintaining these relationships. I also learnt what I am less interested in which is always very useful to know too!

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Initially the experience was planned to be in person. If the experience was in person, expenses would have been reimbursed and there was also an opportunity to receive accommodation from J.P. Morgan if you lived too far. Personally, I didn't qualify for the accommodation as I live in London. As well as this, with a virtual experience there weren't any expenses that needed to be reimbursed, thus I didn't feel as if this was a problem or inadequate by any means.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes there was, however I would say this was mostly in the panel sessions following the Spring Week. I perhaps would have liked the opportunity to speak to employee one on one, however the experiences we were given were still valuable. I did get to speak to a recruiter which was incredibly useful but I think speaking to an employee in my division of interest would have made the experience of networking and meeting other employees even better.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were good in that we were able to ask any questions we had. We were also able to see the career paths different employees took to reach J.P. Morgan. It was very interesting to hear how such a diverse range of degree backgrounds all took different routes to reach a career at J.P. Morgan. I think the experience would have been better if we had more networking opportunities or perhaps were allocated a buddy that we could reach out to.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I think this was briefly mentioned in terms of the social networks employees can join such as BAME and Women's networks. As well as this, I think philanthropic initiatives were also mentioned. I perhaps would have liked to hear more on this and the range of activities available to employees and their experiences in each activity. I think another aspect that would have been useful is the explanation on how to get involved and the first steps to take.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely! It is a great experience to add to your CV and going forward you definitely gain some inside tips that you wouldn't know without this insight. As well as this you are given the opportunity to build relationships with people in the bank which is really great opportunity going forward. The specialised knowledge we received on each division was also an invaluable experience therefore I would definitely advise a friend to apply to the programme.
