    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • While the Spring Insight Program was virtual, it was very interactive, informative, and interesting throughout. The schedule was packed with very stimulating activities, and I felt that the Rothschild & Co team did a wonderful job in ensuring that we all had a very enjoyable experience. I especially loved that we were able to work on an M&A case study to understand what it's like to work in investment banking first hand. Overall, I strongly recommend this program to anyone interested in learning more about Rothschild & Co and a career in finance.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Very valued, for sure. I loved the welcoming and collaborative culture at Rothschild & Co. It was also very collegial and reminded me of university. It was interesting as I found that many people in the program studied different subjects in university, so everyone was able to contribute their knowledge, unique skills, and experiences into the final M&A presentation. I never felt that I was unable to contribute to the discussions as a STEM major.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • I definitely felt that Rothschild & Co did a great job with their Introduction to Investment Banking session on the first day, as it ensured that everyone was on the same page with regards to understanding the fundamentals of finance. This was very helpful, as not everyone came from a business major. The session also helped me better understand the events after the first day (i.e. the introductions to the various businesses at Rothschild & Co) and helped me in analyzing the final M&A case study. I think that we were given great support for the final presentation but were also enough freedom and room to explore the case ourselves and be creative in how we approached it.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Through this experience, I was able to learn finance quite hands-on, which I really appreciated. I also really enjoyed learning more about Rothschild & Co and about investment banking through the various panels, coffee chats, and information sessions. It was really through the program that I was able to realize that investment banking is a suitable career for me. Finally, I formed great connections with the other students in the program, and I'm so grateful to have a network of like-minded friends who might well become my future colleagues.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The Spring Insight Program was very well-structured. BlueJeans was very easy to use and the transitions between sessions were quite seamless. The schedule was packed with many interesting and informative sessions, and I definitely grew a lot in my understanding of finance in just a few days. I'm glad that in between the many sessions, we were able to connect with current junior bankers and even participate in a virtual quiz, as those made the experience even more interactive and amusing.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • I loved the atmosphere of the experience. While it is difficult to have a lot of interaction in a virtual event, I always felt engaged with the sessions, asked questions, and felt that the group project and the coffee chats greatly added to the interactive piece of the virtual experience. Overall, the atmosphere of the experience was very friendly, welcoming and professional, but it was also very fun at times, especially during the team virtual trivia quiz.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company definitely invested a lot in us, whether that's with the Introduction to Investment Banking session on the first day, or with the introductions to the various businesses of Rothschild & Co. The Introduction to Investment Banking was very helpful, as not everyone came from a business background, and it helped everyone be on the same page early on. I also liked that I was introduced to the equity advisory, debt advisory, wealth management, and merchant banking businesses in addition to the global advisory business, as those helped me understand the other areas of finance that I have not yet explored.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Very much! Not only were we able to speak with current junior bankers at Rothschild & Co to learn more about their work and experience, but we were also able to complete our own M&A case study to get a taste of what it's like to work in investment banking. The various information sessions and case studies throughout the event also helped me understand the work that is typically done in the various businesses of Rothschild & Co.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The virtual experience really helped me better understand the wonderful culture of Rothschild & Co. I loved the Introduction to Rothschild & Co session and the Rothschild Archives session, where we were able to learn more about the history of the Rothschild family. From hearing from many bankers at Rothschild & Co and through speaking with some of them, I was able to get more insight into the very collaborative and collegial nature of Rothschild.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The event not only helped me realize that I was very interested in investment banking, but it also made me realize that Rothschild & Co would be an incredible place to work.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes! We were paired with a Spring Insight buddy who was a junior banker at Rothschild & Co. I really liked that the coffee chats were done in a small group setting, so I was always able to ask questions. We had a total of three coffee chats during the experience, and I really liked connecting with bankers, all of whom were working in different areas of investment banking and who brought different insights into their work and experience.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who is interested in learning more about Rothschild & Co and about a career in investment banking! You also do not need to be studying business in university to apply! I found the experience to be very compelling because the students came from all different backgrounds - some were studying math, statistics, economics, history, engineering, and chemistry - and that greatly added to the experience because everyone brought something different to the table.
