    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was pretty satisfied with the internship. Despite the effects of Covid 19, Deutsche bank was able to provide an impactful internship. As a tech division intern it was new for me to get some finance knowledge that was delivered in the first week. The projects were engaging and I liked to work in groups. The trainings provided were versatile and packed with information, which definitely was useful for the tasks throughout the internship as well as in daily life.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Deutsche Bank creates an atmosphere of ready to help colleagues and always available managers. It was nice to receive quick responses, help and advices from the Deutsche Bank community. It really motivates you to give back what you receive by being active and thoughtful towards your colleagues. Everyone I communicated with, whether it was related to the internship or not, were mindful and always tried to respond with the most useful information, facts or actions.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I am speaking for myself only and my manager was one of the best people I worked with. Even though the program was shortened down by the impact of covid 19, she was able to provide the best experience and guidance possible. I was able to workshadow one of the teams as well as have small interviews with team members asking about the working environment, tasks and activities. My manager was able to make the online internship feel like a normal one, if not better.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work amount was considerably filled with both trainings and projects which was entertaining. I had to struggle with the online connection to the workspace a lot during the internship, which consumed some time of the day towards solving any video / audio / connectivity issues. The projects were a bit unbalanced based on their complexity, but it did not make them any less interesting. I am not sure how different the online internship is to the in person version.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The responsibility regarding the actual matters of Deutsche Bank was not given (apart from possible idea supply with one of the projects), but the analysis conducted during our projects may cause an effect on future actions of Deutsche Bank. A lot of time was contributed towards training and the internship itself had to be shortened to four weeks which did not leave much room for responsible projects due to covid 19 impact. The situation may have been different for an in person internship.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Many skills taught to interns were and are very useful. Both soft skills and hard skills were given to the interns in tech department which gives interns the opportunity to develop in areas that tech students do not practice daily. One of the trainings that caught my attention the most was the training about presentation skills. It was full of tips and advises as well as strategies for presentations and interviews. These skills I am using on a daily basis since then

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was a home office, which did feel lonely at times. However, Deutsche bank definitely did their best to pack the day with group activities such as training sessions, group sessions, teams exploring and manager calls. The internship was entertaining even when sitting alone at home, which raises your every day mood and enlightens the day. I would like to know how different it would be to the in person type of the internship

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Due to us being the very first online interns at Deutsche Bank, there definitely were some technical issues. Many of them occurred on the daily basis and never were fully solved. Despite the fact that there were some issues, Deutsche Bank was able to run the whole system online without any significant repercussions to the work process. Everyone within the group wrre able to communicate on the project and attend all of the meetings as planned.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Deutsche Bank definitely delegated a lot of time for the interns. Some of the trainings were conducted by the outsourcing companies, which created even better opportunities to learn. Managers were helpful a lot during the day and all hr staff replied within seconds. I believe that the internship was packed with opportunities and I personally have grown in many fields both technical and non technical, which allowed me to broaden the horizons and use a lot of new acquired skills.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have got a graduate offer (got the decision within one week) and have already signed it. Deutsche Bank seems as a very nice and friendly place to work in terms of community. I am looking forward to work with one of the teams and definitely would enjoy the team rotation opportunity on the first year. I would like to try and gain skills from several teams, and Deutsche Bank has everything to support the rotations within the company.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Deutsche Bank provided many networking opportunities. I was able to contact students within the UK and the US. As a tech intern, I was surprised with an opportunity to get to know people from every division. Deutsche bank did their best to create a good bound within the interns as well as between the current employees. I liked people students that I worked with and we still keep in touch even thought the internship programme is finished

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Since we worked from home it was impossible to socialize or meet with anyone. I really hope to meet people I worked with next summer if they decide to sign the offer. For now it cannot be judged if the socializing costs are high or low, since covid 19 quarantine prevented any possible in person communication as well as any potential traveling to meet the coworkers and members of teams that I worked with. I hope it will change next year.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Once again, there was no possibility to socialize due to covid 19 impact. I would really like to meet my colleagues when I enter the graduate scheme and I hope that the current world situation will change for better and allow people to be social again. I do think that the night life in London probably is full of entertainment opportunities especially in comparison to the town I currently live in, but I cannot judge since I was not able to experience that.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Deutsche Bank did try their best to create some online activities. I have enjoyed many talks, especially the one given by women at Deutsche Bank. It was very inspiring and definitely impacted my mindset by lowering any insecurities or fears about joining the tech department as a girl. Deutsche Bank has also provided us with a fun challenge to take a photo of our quarantine set up and activities, where many students shared how they keep their daily life fun even in covid 19 circumstances.
