    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the placement and am very grateful for having the opportunity to do it. To be able to physically work in the office made the whole experience more enjoyable, especially with the office being very well set up for social distancing. Being physically in the office meant that I was able to meet numerous people and become more involved in the company, even in the shorter time frame that the placement was reduced to.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued during my time here, especially as you could see the lengths the company had gone to to ensure the internship could still run despite COVID-19 and all other companies cancelling their internships.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was really pleased with the level of guidance and support I was offered during my placement. The fact we were given a mentor as our key point of contact meant we knew who to go to throughout the week for any work and questions. My mentor was also very approachable in person and via the phone and email when she was working from home which made it very easy to ask for questions and guidance throughout.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was really interesting to be able to put the theoretical side of property that I have learnt at university into practice. I think also being in an office surrounded by people has developed my communication skills which will assist me in all aspects of life moving forward.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured. I appreciated the welcome breakfast at the beginning of the week where we were able to meet other interns. The internship was very well set up and we were given everything that we needed for the week at this welcome breakfast e.g. access cards, login info and stationary. It was also very useful to have an explanation of the week ahead and to gauge an understanding of the company.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere during the internship felt very positive. I found everyone in the office very welcoming and inclusive and felt I could ask anyone around me a question at any point. Despite people being in the office only for a certain number of days per week it was easy to talk to everyone around and I found everyone very sociable.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As we were able to be in the office I felt like the company had invested a lot into personal training and development, especially with the majority of other companies cancelling their internship opportunities. I also felt the company were very keen to teach me as much about the business as possible in the time frame set which meant I was able to develop my personal skills from studying property at university and put them into practice

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight gave me a very good understanding of what it was like to have a full time role within the company. As I was able to go on a site visit and meet people from different parts of the business and see their roles too, I was able to understand what the day to day work life was like for people in my team. I was also able to see the active levels of communication between team members which furthered my understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role in the company.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I found the insight to be very helpful in understanding the company culture and values. Being physically in the office meant I was able to meet a lot of people from the business and speak to them about their experiences and careers. I was also able to see how employees communicate with each other and their clients which again showed the shared values that the company clearly has and the culture of the company that comes from it.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Whilst I was sure that property was the pathway I wanted to go into, the content was very valuable in helping me decide which areas of property I have more of interest in and therefore would want to explore further. The team that I was situated in is not something that I would have previously thought I would have enjoyed so much, however by seeing the work in practice it showed it in a whole new light.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Unfortunately due to coronavirus there were not opportunities to do formal networking events for the interns, however I felt that I was able to network and meet other employees in the firm very easily. With everyone being so approachable I felt it was easy to ask questions about the work that I was doing and also about the company and their experiences in the industry, which I found very helpful in gauging an understanding of the companies culture.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes through speaking to members of my team I was able to understand the social side of the company, which is very important to me.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would recommend this insight to a friend for many reasons. I found the structure of the programme very good and I felt valued as an intern in the company. I found everyone was very keen to spread their knowledge which meant that I felt like I could ask any questions that I needed to. I also really enjoyed getting a feel for the company by meeting so many people and being in the office for the week/
