4.7/5
The placement was ideal for furthering my understanding of IT and business.
The whole team treated me like a valued colleague and I was trusted with high profile projects.
Management was excellent and gave full support throughout the placement.
I was given the perfect balance of work load. Every day was filled with interesting and varied tasks, which even gave me travel opportunities within the UK.
I was given a very high profile project to deliver, and represented the company on my own at university placement events.
I learnt so many different skills which are extremely relevant to my degree and future career.
The general atmosphere was friendly, supportive and professional. I was put at ease immediately and enjoyed the fact that dogs were also allowed in the office, which made for a pleasant atmosphere.
I could not have asked for a better placement in terms of organisation and structure. My manager always had an overall plan for my work and kept me fully informed of how the year would progress. I also had regular meetings with my manager who gave me constructive feedback on my progress and work skills.
I attended regular training sessions and individual members of the team trained me on an on-going basis. I was also sent to York for an initial induction programme and felt the company invested a great deal to develop my skills.
Having completed the placement with Nestle, I would find any future employment prospects within its organisation extremely appealing. I felt very honoured to have secured the placement with such a successful company and working for them was a pleasure. I think it would provide excellent future opportunities to develop professionally, and because the whole atmosphere of the Gatwick office was so supportive and friendly, it would be great to work there on a permanent basis.
There were plenty of opportunities to socialise with fellow placement students. I joined a tennis club near the office, together with my fellow IT placement student, and attended social events with the department.
I commuted from home until lockdown, after which I was allowed to work from home. Working from home obviously saved me a lot of money that would have been spent on train travel, particularly because I had an hour and a half commute. However, there was a Metro bus service that picked me up from Gatwick and took me directly outside the office. The company provided me with a pre-paid card for that bus service.
Crawley offers a good variety of pubs, restaurants and bars.
There are volunteer days, sports activities and social events.
