    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • There were many reasons I enjoyed the Savills Summer Scheme. Firstly, it was excellent that the scheme went ahead as other organisations had cancelled theirs. I enjoyed the multiple site visits throughout the placement which helped me understand what I had been learning at university and putting it into practice. I was more than happy with the department I was put into as I had expressed my interests for that sector in my interview. I wish I could have stayed longer!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • From day one and throughout the placement I was given great responsibility to complete multiple different tasks. After the tasks were completed I was given good feedback which made me feel like my time was valued and had done a good job helping the team out. Finally, as I was taken on many different site visits, i got to talk to multiple clients and I was treated with the same respect as any other employee of Savills.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My mentor and every other team member and employee I have come across during my placement have been wonderful and welcoming. I have not once been afraid to ask any questions. Before every task was assigned to me I was given more than enough information in order to complete it. The team have also been very helpful with information to progress my career in property with applications and what its like to become a surveyor.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For example, I have learnt about leases at university and the key things to look out for within one but I had never completed a lease audit. Now I can go back to university and take the extra knowledge and experience of working with a lease. I have had more experience of talking to clients and It has been great to see what the day to day life of a surveyor in this sector is.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Before the Summer Scheme had even taken place I was provided with lots of information which was great. The welcome breakfast on day one was a nice start to the scheme. The time table that was created for the week was clear and it was given to us in advance which worked well with what our individual teams had planned for us to do, so there was always something to do.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was great to be introduced to lots of different team members throughout the week as they were in the office different days. Everyone was very chatty and welcoming and made me feel at home. They have all asked about me, my hobbies and what my career choices would be along with telling me more about themselves. I also felt appreciated for the tasks that I had completed for the team. I enjoyed my week very much.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Although I was meant to be here for longer and that I was only here for a week. I was shown / taught a number of different in house and external systems that are used in this department. I believe they invested and took a lot of their time out of the day to explain how to do the day to day tasks and taking me with them on the site visits. I feel like i have learnt a lot in this short space of time.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I had done a number of different day to day tasks within the team and it has given me a great understanding of what it would be like to work at Savills in this role, from going on site visits to being in the office at the desk doing work on excel and emailing the team. I would love to come back on a full time roll and work within this team or a similar one.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • From being in the office and working environment for the week it has given me a good insight and understanding to the company culture. If the placement had gone on for the original length of time I believe I would have had an even better understanding. As a whole I enjoyed working for the week here, I felt appreciated for the work I had done and all of the team were friendly and supportive. I enjoyed my time here.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Before I joined Savills for the Summer Scheme I was already very much interested in the sector I had been placed into as I had done previous work experience at similar companies and enjoyed it. Being placed into this team has confirmed to me that when I leave university I would like to work for a company like this doing what I have been doing for the past week. The zoom meetings have also been informative about the other departments of the company.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed for all my expenses for the week.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Due to the global pandemic the usual networking events were cancelled which was unfortunate as I would have enjoyed meeting other employees in different departments. I believe it would have been better if we could have tried to arrange a socially distanced networking event at the office. However, I did go out to lunch twice this week with different employees from my department which was good to get to know them and the job they do better.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • After chatting to different employees in my department there are a number of activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. The first one i heard about was the multiple charity events that are held annually. Secondly, I got told about the number of different social sports teams that Savills have this interested me as I love sport. Thirdly, i was informed that networking events are quite popular withing the business and finally, volunteering.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would more than recommend the Savills Summer Scheme to a friend studying my course or a similar one. It was jam packed of things to do throughout the week and it would be even better if it was for the original period it was meant to be for. I got to get a real understanding of what it would to be like working in a leading large firm, I got to meet lots of people within my team. Overall it was a great experience and opportunity.
