    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyed it massively given obvious circumstances. Seemed to be run as well as a virtual internship could have been!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The colleagues across all divisions definitely made an effort to be inclusive and show interest in our development. I believe a slight benefit of the virtual environment is that frequent interactions were common, and MS employees were proactive to network back.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Often a senior member of the bank was happy to chat and/or get involved with our scheduled networking or activities. They showed their clear interest in getting to know us, perhaps given that the potential entrants to their teams may come from this cohort.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We had a combination of scheduled events, as well as self-organised networking and tasks too. This was a great hybrid as it was important to have timetabled commitments to give us some structure and deadlines, but also allows us to take advantage of the freedom in order to tailor the internship accordingly too.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given the circumstances it was clear we couldn’t perhaps take a severely hands on type of role, which was certainly understandable. I suppose virtual interns may have limited value to add. That said, email distributions and data mining was something we were able to easily volunteer for, which was great to give us a realistic structure to the day.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Overall, they have highlighted the industry I want to work in, which allows me to tailor my degree (via module selection perhaps) to suit the skill sets I would need/want. I’m certainly grateful for the clarity it has provided me in completing my degree studies.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Difficult to fully establish, although character-wise it was certainly a good impression.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Again given the circumstances I think it was organised as well as a virtual internship could have been executed.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was pleasantly surprised by the extent to which the employees looked to give personalised feedback. It was very refreshing, especially given the virtual environment. It was also very good for helping us progress.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I believe the attractiveness of the firm made the idea of working for Morgan Stanley an incredibly appealing one. The work and industry were expectedly exciting, but the bank itself shone (even through the screen) as an overall great environment on the two desks I was lucky enough to rotate on.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Again, perhaps a very difficult one for HR and the interns to fulfil. However, we did hear that in the physical setting there are many highlights that MS have had in previous years internships.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • No extra cost given WFH.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not necessarily applicable to the specific area of work.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Given COVID this was understandably difficult away from intern-organised socials.

    3/5
