About You
The virtual experience was challenging and different at the start, however, the HR team at Morgan Stanley ensured that our intern cohort had all the necessary tools to thrive in this environment.
Every individual that I came across within the firm was incredibly inclusive and went the extra mile due to the virtual environment. We were often invited to join team meetings which ensured that we felt part of the team.
The internship was structured in that each intern was assigned a buddy and dean; these individuals were extremely useful throughout the programme as they had ample knowledge of how to make the most of the internship and they were very keen to be informed about our progress each week. Each intern also had an HR contact who was available to talk through any queries related to the programme.
The internship enabled me to develop my soft skills, as well as further my technical knowledge related to finance, which helped me to build upon the foundations I obtained in my Economics degree.
The Company
The virtual programme was organised and executed very efficiently and closely mirrored an in-person experience. We had frequent sessions to enhance our knowledge and network, while a wide range of virtual tools were used to create an engaging experience.
The virtual experience was very enjoyable, as the HR team ensured that we had adequate resources at hand to network and engage with not only Morgan Stanley employees but also with my fellow intern class. This generated a positive and stimulating environment throughout the programme.
We had frequent training sessions that would go into depth on key financial areas in order to broaden our knowledge of the firm's operations.
I gained exposure to many areas within Sales & Trading and through networking and shadowing, I managed to gain an insight into what a full-time role would entail.
The experience provided an opportunity to learn more about Morgan Stanley's core values and how these are executed in day-to-day business by each employee. Elsewhere, the collaborative and dynamic ambiance within the Sales & Trading division was particularly attractive.
The experience reinforced my desire to work in Sales & Trading through the diverse learning opportunities and network that I have built.
Everything Else
There were frequent networking events with fellow interns, as well as many opportunities to reach out to the different teams within Sales & Trading.
The networking events were well organised and there were frequent team activities that enabled me to get to know the intern class.
I had a few conversations with employees about this.
Overall, the programme was very enjoyable and gave me a great insight into life as a full time employee.
