    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I greatly enjoyed my internship. Considering the circumstances (the depths of a global pandemic) Softwire did phenomenally well to ensure everything went smoothly and we still had stuff to do.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • 5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Code was checked over rigorously before being added to the project, but this is entirely understandable. Whilst "tickets" (small-ish tasks of a few hours to a day or two) were prescreptive in what needed to be achieved, there was plenty of freedom as to how to achieve the goal. It was often left up to the interns to organise their own meetings & discussions to discuss how to achieve goals. Interns were also encouraged to lead meetings in the morning or at the end of the week.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We weren't in the office (COVID-19 lockdown) most of the time, but working from home was still made to have a nice atmosphere with games and a social side.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Unfortunately remote working wasn't as conducive to socialising as an office would have been. Softwire did a great job to make it as good as possible.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
