    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was very enjoyable! Initially it was a bit weird that everything was virtual, but as time went by we built strong connections online. We also had different fun challenges during the internship, such as a chance to create our own food love stories which was very fun!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. Everyone was friendly to each other and everyone was very approachable. We also got collaborated well everyone helped each and at no point did I feel like I had no support. We also got to meet senior colleagues and they were very approachable and friendly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support given was immense! Our supervisors were so kind and whenever we had issue we could contact easily and they solved it as soon as possible. They also tried to make this virtual experience as fun as possible and they succeeded in that! They made it possible for all the interns to interact with each other easily. They also helped us out in whatever they could. They were all very very approachable and friendly!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It wasn't so busy as it was a virtual internship. However we did have to do a lot of research during the initial stages and we then worked on our presentations. However mostly everyday we did have meeting with different members of Tesco including some executive staff. We also had some days where we had virtual learning.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We were given quite a lot of responsibility. We were given the project brief and then as a group we just started to come up with ideas. Then we managed the project and how we would go about approaching it. However we did also have weekly check-ins with our manager.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think it will assist me for life. We learnt a lot about different skills such as: collaborating with others, presentation skills, how to have a growth mindset and how to be resilient.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • This is something we couldn't experience this year since it was a virtual internship.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Surprisingly, given this is the first time Tesco set up a virtual internship, it was very organised. Also any problems had were solved quickly by our supervisors.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They provided us virtual training which was so good. The sessions were very useful and they taught me alot. They were also very interactive, so for example we had a virtual escape room during one of the training sessions.

  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing! We got to meet loads of senior members which started of as interns and grads and now they are in some of top posts which was very nice to see. I could see that we could always move up in roles and everyone seems to be very friendly and approachable.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Since it was virtual, the social aspect was a bit hard to have. However, we did have online lunch break and we had an art session. Some people did manage to have a meetup in Scotland and London.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • No idea, since we were working from home.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was a virtual internship, so not sure.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • It was a virtual internship, so we didn't gather outside much. However some interns did meet up in Scotland and London.
