    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I had an amazing time on the scheme, and I was very impressed with Dentons ability to adapt to being online. I think that the firms availability to answer questions and assist with any issues before, during and after the scheme was amazing. I think that this scheme was good as it allowed you to learn about a variety of practice areas while also learning about the overall trainee experience and life at Dentons. Excellent Experience!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • During my first placement I really felt part of the team and I felt like the work I completed would really contribute to the teams working matters. I also felt the same of my opinions given during the group work task. While I understand why this had to be the case due to the virtual nature of the scheme I felt that during the second day that the task while still amazing lacked some of the real life feel however once discussing it with my associate supervisor it became clear how it would link to the teams work in practice.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • I believe that the support provided by the graduate recruitment was amazing before the scheme to keep us informed of the scheme going virtual and how it would work. I also think that graduate recruitments morning and evening catch ups as well as the beginning and end of scheme catch ups provided a unique level of support. As well as the ability for us to be in constant contact with graduate recruitment if required during the scheme for tech and other issues.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that Dentons provided us with a unique chance to gain unique research and communications skills during the scheme. As well as this I believe the information the firm provided on their inner workings and how the process works means that I have a unique outlook on work at a commercial firm which will assist me during my further studies and with all applications I make for jobs and life beyond the virtual vacation scheme.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The initial check ins, the day to day lunchtime sessions and the check ins with our supervisor and buddies gave the whole day structure as well as the introduction of social events on various days meant that you felt truly part of the team even while not being able to meet everyone in person. I think that the structure of mixing teams from across the UK meant that you were able to gain experience from various areas and from various people.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • If felt truly supported throughout the scheme with everyone on the scheme, on the graduate recruitment team, during the presentations and one on one talks with our supervisor and buddies. The socials meant that once we started the scheme we already knew each other and the group chats set up by graduate recruitment before the scheme meant that we were already able to chat and keep up to date with information before hand. Great exciting atmosphere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The team spent a great amount of time and effort in making sure we were able to take part in the scheme and to make sure that we were able to perform to the best of our ability. I believe the lunch time sessions gave us some great opportunities for personal development as well as the feedback provided to us before the scheme on our assessment centre. The group task also provided a unique opportunity for us to be able to work together and gain new skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think throughout the scheme we were able to find out exactly what it would be like to work for Dentons as a full time member of the team in a partner, associate, trainee and also development role. I think the work provided by the teams allowed us to also see exactly what work we would be completely during the training contract and it also allowed us to gain new skills such as research, and producing documents.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I got a real sense of how inclusive the firm were through speaking to staff at all levels in both a formal and informal context. This is something which I think is truly representative of the firm Dentons are. The lunchtime sessions and introductory sessions provides a real overview and insight into the inner working of the firm before then offering you the opportunity to ask questions and challenge why the companies culture is the way it is.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content was hugely valuable and really gave me an insight into what it would be like to work for a large commercial firm. I would truly love to work for this work, the culture within the firm was truly engaging and truly inspired me to strive to be able to work within a truly engaging firm like Dentons. I believe that this is now truly the career path I would like to undertake. Great content.

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was adequately reimbursed for the time on my scheme. I was told exactly what I would be paid and how this would be adjusted to deal with the shorter time scale of the virtual scheme. I was paid promptly and at a reasonable amount for the work completed. It was realty helpful as I had to take time off work for the scheme which I think was great and showed Dentons value the work being put in.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were opportunities to networking with employees in the firm in both formal setting during team meeting, individual meeting and through emails. There were also opportunities to network with professional development teams during our lunchtime settings. There were also great opportunities in the evening during the socials and during the trainee panel to be able to informally network and gain a great and new insight into life at Dentons as well as making everyone feel welcome.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were new, interesting and intriguing. I loved the session on the first evening which provided a new a unique task I had never completed before. It also provided a great opportunity to get to know the trainees and be able to ask them questions as well as find out more about them. The social event on the first night allowed us to be able to get to know the new incoming trainees which was very interesting.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • the team were very open about all of the CSR and other opportunities that employees are able to get involved in during the time at Dentons. Especially the social clubs and activities. Especially the many opportunities that individuals at all level are able to be involved in. The trainees are truly encouraged to get involved which I think is amazing and I believe that this is something truly unique to Dentons. The ability for all ideas to be considered is great to know.

  • I would recommend the experience to anyone trying to gain experience in a commercial law firm. The scheme was well organised and amazing even they it has to end up virtual. it provided a unique experience to be able to get to know law students from al over the UK as well as a variety of different age groups meaning that all working being undertaken had a variety of different experience and individuals involved. Highly recommend
