The Role
This internship was one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life. It's extremely fun. I was waiting for the next work day to start so I can work more on the projects we were given. The internship helped me develop myself on both a personal level and a professional level. Everyone on the team were very friendly and would help me whenever I needed help, no matter if it was work related or not.
No matter who I spoke to in the company treated me like an equal, even if they were working in their field for more than 20 years. I always got praised for what I did right and always felt included in any activities happening at American Express. The company is treating all the employees extremely well, making sure that everyone is happy at work and everyone in the company also embraces this vision and makes everyone feel welcomed.
Whenever I needed something there was always someone I could contact, no matter in which department they work. I would always get informative and friendly responses which helped me a lot in this internship. We were given a lot to work on, but also whenever we needed help, there was someone to help us. And instead of giving us the answer directly to our problem, we were pointed in the right direction, this way we developed a lot.
I believe that the work we were given was almost perfectly balanced. The team I was in was doing very well and sometimes we would have some free time before the end of day, but overall we were still quite busy and working on the projects we were given. The work day was from 9AM to 5PM with 1 hour lunch break, but it is worth noticing that this hours are flexible and if your team agrees you can whenever you want.
This was one of the best parts about the internship, we were just a team of inters, but we were treated like any other team, we had to work on important projects that aim to solve real-world problems. Even more than that, the team I was on, worked on setting the ground running on a new project which will be built upon for the next decades. We built the foundations for what future employees will work on.
I learnt a lot! Everyday I would learn something, it is crazy how much you can develop in such a short time, I feel like I developed more on this internship, then in 2 years at university. I learned a lot of important concepts and technologies which are industry standards. I am absolute sure that what I learned will make the last year at university much easier and will help me get better grades and apply what I learnt here.
The Company
It was extremely fun, everyone was treating everyone as a friend. It was a productive atmosphere, because everyone was feeling well and knew that they got a friend in the person next to them. Everyone is accepted and respected no matter their background. American Express is open to everyone and you'll be treated equally. Everyone can be open as long as they respect their colleagues. Personally I enjoyed being part of such a great team and felt included.
The internship was set up extremely well. I never had to worry about anything, except my work. From the start of the recruitment process to the last day of the internship everything was running seamless. We were informed about anything we must do from a legal view and were given resources on how we can do it, after the paperwork was done, you would not have to worry about anything else but your job. Truly great job from the recruitment office.
American Express invests a lot into their employees, we were given access to a lot of resources for free and were allowed to explore and learn new things in our work hours. We also had the opportunity to take weeks off only for training. The company organised different events in which we spoke with people in our work area with tons of experience, we could ask questions, discuss our ideas and make sure we learn as much as possible.

The Culture
My team was amazing, everyone was very understanding, with a lot of soft skills and funny in general. I loved to work with all of them and there were no dramas or problems while socialising with other students. We also socialised with other teams and got to know a lot of colleagues from all other the world. I made a lot of new close friends which I will keep in contact even after this internship.
I got invited to a lot of optional events outside work. There are a ton of things you can attend, from charity events to social ones. The amount of people you can meet is close to endless. Everyday you might attend something that would help you self-develop or just simply have fun. The company encourages you to attend this events, but they aren't mandatory. I would still recommend that you attend as many as you can, since they are really fun.
