    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was super enjoyable and a great way to spend my summer learning and networking with my fellow colleagues. I was able to meet new people, develop new relationships and work on a meaningful project that others would find beneficial. The experience I've gained from this internship is incredibly valuable and I've developed skills that I will carry with me into the future. Thanks for continuing the summer internship virtually - it has been amazing.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt really valued by my colleagues, I was frequently told that my project was really useful and meaningful and from the beginning people were asking me for insights from my data so I felt very quickly part of the culture and wider organization. The feedback I recieved was absolutely great and I will definitely miss everyone once the internship is over but I am confident that I will continue speaking with them in future.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I only had one line manager who was absolutely great. He very quickly made me feel comfortable and made me aware that I could always come to him no matter what, which I really appreciated. The feedback I received was good however my project made It quite hard for him to give me as much feedback as I would have liked, but this wasn't his fault. Overall we had 2 performance reviews but I think it would've been useful to have a goal setting review at the beginning too.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This really differed depending on the days as some were much busier than others whether that be because of training sessions, meetings, catch ups, quizzes etc so it is hard to say. There were days where I didn't have much to do and some days where I wasn't able to catch a breath but I liked this about the internship - the work was fast paced and challenging and never boring. It wasn't too much to handle.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility which I absolutely loved. I was worried that my project would be pointless but it was actually really important to the company and therefore I had a lot of responsibility and pressure - but I liked this. There were points where I had to work independently and although at first I was concerned I definitely came into my own and was able to navigate myself through the learning

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed and the training received will massively assist me in my degree and beyond. The work is really relevant to the degree that I am currently studying so I will definitely put into practice what I have learnt in the next academic year. I was able to use software and undergo training sessions which are really relevant today and so I know for sure that it will be very very handy

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was one of the best things about the internship - we were able to have casual chats as well as informal work related chats. We often did quizzes and would speak everyday via call and so this really became one of the things I loved most about the internship. I can imagine that If I were in the office it would've been even better! We've definitely become a little family as well as colleagues

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was organized so well considering that not long ago it was supposed to be in the office, but as a result of COVID it went virtual and it was organized exceptionally in such a short amount of time. We were sent laptops ahead of our start date as well as frequent care packages to support us and keep us going which were nice little touches. I was so impressed with how this was set up for us.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I don't know if it could've been possible to invest in anymore training and development sessions. The company really went above and beyond to make sure that we learn everyday and gain something from the internship. Sometimes the training wouldn't even be relevant to my project but it was still so interesting to learn how to use other software and develop our skillset. We also had speaker series and got to know some very senior people which was awesome.

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely be interested in a full time position with this company. I really like the feel of the organization, the blue box values of the company and also the people. This is somewhere that I could really see myself for the future and somewhere that I could see myself thriving and enjoying my work. However, even if I wasn't offered a role I've definitely gained a lot from the internship and learnt a lot about myself.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes so with COVID it was never as good as what it could've been if it were in office but we created a group chat amongst ourselves and would often set up video calls, quizzes etc to really get to know each other and utilize each others' areas of knowledge and their project area. I was lucky to have such great fellow interns and this is something that shaped the internship too for me definitely

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Due to COVID I don't know for sure. I stayed and worked from home so the cost for me was not much but with it being in the capital city I'm sure the cost of living would've been quite high. In terms of socializing this would've been awesome due to the location. Maybe after the pandemic we could all meet up and test this out - I'm sure it would've been absolutely great and unforgettable

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Unfortunately as a result of COVID I didn't get to experience the nightlife or the social side of things. However, it was based in London so I can imagine the nightlife was pretty good with lots of options. Also with it being the capital I'm sure a lot of people would have travelled to or been local to London which would've made the experience even more incredible. Maybe after the pandemic we could all meet up and test this out

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Unfortunately as a result of COVID I didn't get to experience the activities or the social side of things. However, it was based in London so I can imagine it would've been pretty good with lots of options. Also with it being the capital I'm sure a lot of people would have travelled to or been local to London which would've made the experience even more incredible. Before the internship were virtual there were talks of a great social line up which unfortunately didn't get to see fruition
