The Role
Great company culture and HR team made sure we were happy. Having a virtual internship meant fewer social events but we had continuous catchups and calls to make sure we were feeling happy with Amex.
Interns were generally treated as full-time employees, except access rights to internal applications. We had a chance to talk to colleagues including SVPs, and present our product to senior colleagues.
Good guidance. We were 7 interns in the team but we had 2 graduates (easily approachable and knowledgeable), various managers who helped us get in contact with knowledgeable people on internal tools, and more experienced engineers who we could contact as if we were part of the team.
This was very much up to us interns. As it was a virtual experience it was difficult to constantly find work but we had a busy 9-5 day, with occasional work after 5.
We were working on a Proof of Concept project so we did not have any direct responsibility, but we were told this would be moved to production so we had a clear goal.
The Company
Excellent. Colleagues were all willing to help with even little issues (like setting up your computer), and senior colleagues were happy to speak with us.
We had technical training in the form of online courses, and we received various 1-hour tutorials on different technologies. Most development was on soft skills and teamwork, which was great.
