    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • We got a really great insight into all the functions and what the typical roles involve. Not only this but the chance to speak to senior business leaders and ask questions was a great experience. The workshop on purpose was great at getting us to start thinking about our personal purpose and how this can help us not only at Unilever but at work. We also had an employability session as well as the chance to present to brand managers.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We always had time to ask questions and were made to feel like we could ask anything at anytime. The additional pub quiz after day 1 was great fun too. Even speaking to the senior business leaders was a very relaxed and supportive environment and was clear that they wanted to speak to us. It was clear that a lot of thought had been put into this virtual event to ensure we got a lot out of it.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • All of the questions were always answered promptly and any technical issues were always resolved instantly. The interactive nature of the workshops made the event feel really personal and Very supportive. The purpose workshop was collaborative and despite the fact we were sharing personal information the other participants and facilitators were supportive. The feedback on our sustainability strategy presentations to The brand managers was very constructive, supportive and positive. The employability session was very supportive and informative.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot about how understanding your purpose is key to success; both personal and professional. The workshop got us thinking collaboratively and out loud to help us develop key skills to take away. The chance to present a new sustainable strategy to brand managers has given me to chance to develop key skills that I can take forward to my degree and beyond (presentation, communication, pitching, analysis, teamwork). The employability session has given us the chance to improve our CV and interview skills.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The event was really well planned. We got a clear agenda before hand, which was stuck too. Every session had valuable information that we can talk forward to uni and beyond. The pre work was sent to us well in advance to give us a chance to think about the sessions and prepare to our best ability. There were two sets of pre work to complete. We were given clear breaks for tea and for lunch to make sure we stayed focussed.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The atmosphere has been really relaxed, the playlist during the breaks is a personal highlight as well as the pub quiz in the evening of day 1. The business leaders we spoke to were also very engaging and spoke to us on a personal and informal level, happily answering any questions we had and shared their personal journeys. This made the virtual event have a really great, informative and fun atmosphere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was clear that Unilever has invested a lot into this event- getting the UK&I general manager [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and VP HR UK&I [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] to give us valuable time to ask questions and hear their personal stories was great. There were a lot of sessions out on for us to develop key skills to take away and we got a lot of feedback from brand managers about our presentations and how to improve our skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Whilst it wasn’t the same as an in person experience, it still gave us an insight into the types of work and environment we would be working in. The people running the event answers all of the questions that we wanted to ask and gave us a real opinion on what it is like to work for Unilever. It would have been great to be able to visit to sites but understanding that can’t happen given the current climate.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • A key take away from the event was that it is the people that make Unilever a great place to work. So by meeting employees we got a real insight into the culture. It would have been great to be able to visit to sites to get a better understanding of the in person culture that Unilever has, but it is understandable that this can’t happen given the current climate and the event has to be virtual.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I am already pretty set on what career path I want to take but the event was still informative and gave us an insight into all of the different functions of Unilever and what their roles involved. There was a lot of information on the different routes you can take in the business as a graduate and made this a lot clearer and made us more prepared for the summer internship next summer.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • This was an unpaid event.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • there were lots of opportunities to network and meet employees of Unilever. The facilitator were always willing to answer any questions we had and we also got to ask questions from a range of employees starting from graduates all the way to UK&I general manager and UK&I HR VP. We also got to network with the other participants when we were split into smaller group and hear their stories and why they want to work for Unilever

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We found out about many opportunities employees can take part in. These involved volunteering, field sales roles, travelling, workshops, continued learning and opportunities.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • Yes I would definitely recommend this experience to my friends. It is clear that Unilever has put a lot of thought into this event to help make up for the fact that our internships had to be postponed to next summer. The workshops and chances to network were invaluable and I am definitely taking a lot away from the event that I can apply to both uni and my career after wards.
