    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • This two day virtual experience was great to be able to get a taste of what working at Unilever is like and the atmosphere and vibe of the company. I really appreciate the effort they went to, to put this on as a few summer placement opportunities have just been cancelled. It was fun to be able to meet some people I will be working with next summer and being able to put some names to faces before we start.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • They put a huge amount of effort in ensuring that everybody was comfortable and having a good time. There was a lot of information given about the company and a really nice introduction to what we may be doing and the working environment. Everything we did was informative as well as fun and engaging. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and be listened to. Again, I just really appreciated the time and effort they gave to make sure we had a great time and to learn more.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • There was lots of support with each of the tasks that we had to complete; the purpose workshop and sustainability business challenge. At any opportunity, feedback was given and there was lots of opportunity to ask any question at all. As this was a warm up for the summer placement next summer, it was great to be able to ask people who already work there, and have been through the same experience, what we should expect and how to make the most of our time once we join.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This experience has made me want to take time to think about what I really want to achieve in life. The purpose workshop that was run (even though not the full experience) gave a great taste of how I think and how I want to work. It gave me an opportunity to stop and start thinking how I want work and what things are important to me in the future. Also having an opportunity to hear from some of the recruiters about CV and interview techniques, will also be useful in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • Everything that was organised had been planned and happened seamlessly. Obviously, being a virtual experience, there are always technical difficulties but everybody was very nice so if something did go wrong, it was easy to solve and carry on. There were also enough breaks during the time so that you could stay engaged and interested without getting too tired or bored being sat at a desk all day. It was well thought out and the activities offered were all things that I wanted to take part in, nothing seemed like a chore.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • Everybody running and taking part in the two days were lovely and really friendly to talk to and get to know. It felt like a really easy going atmosphere but you also knew that everyone wanted to be there taking part and participating. Despite the crazy hot weather, everyone was upbeat and made sure we were all happy to carry on. Just a fun and friendly couple of days that gave me a great insight into Unilever and what to expect.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • By doing the Purpose workshop, we were given the opportunity to get to know each other better as well as understand ourselves more. They took the time to dedicate and speak to everybody and give us some feedback into what we said. By running this virtual experience it was great that they took the time to speak to all of us and get to know us even though lots of companies have just cancelled summer placements.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We were able to talk to many people in the company from the VPHR UK&I as well as the general manager and people from the UFLP graduate training programme. It was great to understand more about the company culture and understand more about their priorities and what they are looking for in employees.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Most of what Unilever does is about sustainability and their purpose along with brand and people purpose. This was made super clear throughout the two days and gave us the opportunity to understand what to expect when we got there.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was a great start in being able to get me to think about what I want to do in the future. I still not know exactly what I want to do, but it has given me a place to start. I am looking forward to actually working there and getting an opportunity to explore this further.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • This was online so there was nothing to get paid or reimbursed for.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Lots of opportunities to meet and talk to people. Every task was with people working at Unilever and each task had time set to ask lots of questions to a range of people.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There was some networking by being able to ask questions to people working at Unilever. As well as a quiz in the evening after day 1 so that we could talk in a more relaxed session.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • A few but obviously no on is in the office and it was online so we will find out later on. But if you asked then they would let you know

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • Yes I would, this was a great alternative to the Summer Placement and I'm glad that they ran it over the last few days so that we could meet each other and get more information about what Unilever is like. Still does not replace the actual placement however.
