    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • In 2020 Goldman Sachs, because of the COVID situation, decided to provide for its interns a virtual experience. I was really scared that a virtual one will not be complete without going to the office and meeting new people in person. Luckily, people were so helpful and so nice for us! We had a lot of catch-ups with the team, coffee breaks on Zoom or even meetings with the senior leaders. It was a truly enriching experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Everyone at the firm takes care of the interns' integration within the team. Personally, I felt like a full-time employee, with proper benefits and resources. Your work is also valued, appreciated and important for the team. Moreover, the feedback is frequent so that you don't lose the track of how you are perceived. Also, you invite the whole division for a presentation which makes you feel really valued within the team. Last but not least, frequent catch-ups with everyone allow you to bond with the employees.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • During an internship at Goldman Sachs, you have a buddy, mentor and manager - all of these three always available for you if needed, despite of the level of seniority they have within the firm. You have access to the most needed online resources and the team always helps you in finding the resources you do not have access to. Frequent zoom calls with the team you are working with also allow you to keep you up to date.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • An internship at Goldman Sachs is an incredible opportunity for people that want to elaborate their hard skills. University being mostly theoretical, it does not always provide you proper tools for the professional career. In Goldman, you are valued if you are a quick learner, do not fear being challenged and you are curious and enthusiastic about you are doing. In addition, it provides you new knowledge about how to implement the university theory in practice.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • In the Warsaw office, we have had a rotation in four different teams and we were shifting each week. Like this, we have gained a 360 degrees overview of what the division is about. Such a structure allowed us to find out in which team do we feel the best. Also, we need to mention the frequent zoom calls and catch-ups with managers and team members so that we can stay on the right track.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • People in Goldman Sachs were very, very nice all along the way during the internship! Very helpful and welcoming, they never refused to answer a question or to help in a struggle. Also, we have never been reprimanded or insulted if we did not know something or if we blocked along the way. Then, the firm is vibrant, full of young and motivated people. Work with such people is a great journey and a big pleasure!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Goldman always treats their interns as potential incomers. Therefore, their level of investment in interns, in their personal training and development, is just outstanding. I have never seen a similar approach to the intern. The first week is full of trainings and live sessions, you have also face-to-face meetings with senior managers so that you can talk about the firm and about your plans for the future. Conferences with CEO included. Incredible opportunity to stand out!

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Thanks to the rotation in four different teams within the Division, I had an incredible chance to get to know the day-to-day life of the team. I participated to a great extent in the Business-as-Usual practices and I had many calls with senior managers about what the division is doing on a daily basis. Obviously, some aspects of the job are impossible to fulfill without a proper training beforehand, but the team mitigated it with lots of trainings.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Luckily, the company is really well prepared for the remote experience. They made their best to assure themselves that we are given a firsthand experience of the culture and their people. After 5 weeks of the internship, I am deeply acquainted with the firm's values and objectives. This is mainly because of numerous catch-ups with people working in the Division, but also thanks to the trainings that were provided on line about the firm's culture.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • In every professional activity that we undertake, it is crucial to be paid and - ideally - to be paid fairly. It is obvious that your motivation is prone to be decreasing rather than increasing without the impression of being fairly paid. What I really liked about the internship at Goldman Sachs is that we were paid adequately to what we were doing. It also shows that the Firm respects its interns and their needs.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Because of the pandemic, the whole internship experience has been moved online. Because of this restrictions, we could not go to the office (even if full-time employees were gradually coming back). It was a huge pity that we could not even take a proper look at the office facilities. However, I have been told that normally, when the internship is not virtual, there are actually plenty of events so that the whole office can meet interns - another time then maybe!

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • Goldman Sachs internship is an incredible way to decide what interests you the most and how do you want your career path to be. There is no other internship that looks after their interns as here. From the daily catch-ups with your manager to conferences with the CEO of the whole group, you really have impression of being a part of the team. You are visible during this internship and the feeling is just unbelievable.
