The Role
I Really enjoyed this internship and all of the opportunities presented to me to learn. Yes, it was challenging however it was also rewarding. I was included in all of the usual day to day activities in the team and was made to feel included in all of the teams activities. The work that I conducted as an intern had real world positive results and outcomes. This made me happy to dedicate myself to my project.
My colleagues really did value my presence. I was constantly being invited to senior meetings in order to shadow and to take notes / minutes. Colleagues constantly contacted me and offered further opportunities to learn and pushed me to complete my best work. New members of the team took the time to connect with me and hear about my experience so far. While it was difficult working from home, all of my team members took the time to make me feel welcome.
My manager stayed in constant contact with me. I had daily catch-ups with my manager where we outlined my priorities and goals for the day and week. We also connected in order for me to gather feedback on how I was doing and was always pushed to produce my best work. Even when my manager was extremely busy, the rest of the team filled in and ensured that i was constantly working towards a new goal or objective.
On a daily basis I had a lot to complete. As well as my daily goals i also had a running project to analyse and present data relating to a specific function. As well as this I was able to attend a series of different talks with a range of professional individuals. This, combined with networking sessions and "classroom" sessions with the other interns ensured that we were constantly busy with lots of work to do.
During my placement i was given immense autonomy and responsibility. All of my projects and tasks were a part of the day to day business function, therefore failure to meet deadlines would have real world consequences. That being said, I always had the right support and guidance behind me which gave me the confidence to dice in and make the right decisions. my opinions were always asked for and valued and i was always given ownership of particular work functions.
The skills that i have developed over the past five weeks i will take away with me and apply in every day life. I ;learned a lot about myself in terms of my limits and skills and am excited for future opportunities to demonstrate this. My time management and organisational skills were crucial during this internship and i got a lot better at managing my time and prioritizing my workload in order to be more successful in the role.
