    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I really enjoyed my summer internship at Goldman Sachs as even if it was virtual, I had the opportunity to get to know employees inside GS, having sessions about finance, worked on real projects, real time feedback from my Buddy, Mentor and Manager. I think there has been a good mix between sessions with senior leaders talking about their experiences and the involvement in the projects of the division. Even if it has been virtual, it felt like been in the office.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued during my time at Goldman Sachs as everyone has been really supportive and helpful when I needed help. There is a strong relation with the manager and the buddy; in my team when I needed support in the projects I always had someone helping me with the procedures. Also when I reach out to people in different teams to get to know better how GS works, everyone was answering me and helping me throughout the whole time.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • I received great guidance and support during the virtual internship; every morning I had calls with the team and the buddy, this helped a lot when performing my tasks for the project. Also people in HCM and Technology have ensured that everything worked smoothly. I felt really supported also by people in senior levels, during the sessions, but also with my manager when performing the projects daily. Overall everyone has been really supportive throughout the entire internship.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During the projects I managed to leverage my language skills in English, Italian, Spanish, French and German. This has been very useful also for my scholastic path as I am studying different languages, and I could put in practice what I've learnt through books. Also, studying finance in my Master, I have seen directly how the bank works and have a practical approach to it. Also I've developed analytical skills when performing in detail the projects.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The virtual experience has been well structured from the beginning as we learnt how to navigate virtually from the first day with a technological session. Then, we had different sessions and meeting with people working in GS giving us insights and suggestions, also talking about their life and their professional experience. There has been the opportunity to apply for affinity networks, as the Women one, so to see different events. In the meantime, we could work on the projects of the team.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The atmosphere was very relaxed as there has been a good balance between work and personal life. We had numerous occasions to get to know people who were working for the firm, everyone has been very supportive and helpful describing their experiences to us. I really liked the atmosphere as I got to know different people in different teams in different divisions who have been very kind in explaining their role and their projects, so to have an understanding of the firm.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As interns we had a lot of training: sessions and meeting with senior leaders and VPs to understand better how the company works, but also lessons on financial topics (e.g. trade life cycle, derivatives). Overall the company invested a lot on us also with classes on data introduction and data visualization with tools such as Alterix which is used a lot in the company. These sessions were put during the first weeks of the internship so that we had a knowledge before starting the projects.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • This virtual experience helped me a lot in understanding the company culture as thanks to all the networking sessions I got in touch with many people across the firm who showed which are the values that are respected in GS. There is a lot of team working inside the firm, everyone is super helpful and supportive when you need help. I think that there is a strong relationship between employees in the firm, so the value and company stands out a lot.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There have been a lot of networking and social event opportunities during the 5 weeks as there have been plenty of opportunities to talk with professionals of the firm, sessions where we met people of different teams and different divisions. Also many affinity networks have given the opportunity to have mentoring programs to learn more about the network and also the firm itself. Even if it was all virtual, we managed to get to know many people, also senior leaders.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I found out different opportunities and activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. As a tennis fan, reaching out to a GS employee, I've discovered that there are events taking time out of working hours about tourneys of tennis between GS employees, which are divided into the different levels of learning. Then, there are a lot of affinity networks, as I join the Women Network, that offers also courses to improve in soft skills as presentation.

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this virtual experience to a friend, as it gave me a lot of opportunities starting from interacting with people in GS, talking to me about their experiences, their roles and their projects, which have helped me a lot during my professional experience. Also, I've been involved in different projects requiring different skills, this has allowed me to improve in different ways. I would recommend it also because even if it has been virtual, it felt to be in the office as everyone was connected.
