The Role
I've had a brilliant time at Zebra. Everyone in the team has been incredibly welcoming, supportive and friendly. I have learnt a lot and had a great time doing it.
There was never a time when I felt like an intern. I was always respected as an equal, both in the way I was treated and the work that I was given. There was plenty of socialising and fun to be had (pre-pandemic).
I was given access to Zebra's internal learning platform with lots of free courses on a lot of stuff that I needed. Any courses that weren't on there were paid for by the company. My manager and my team were always there to support me with any help I needed, no mater how stupid the question. I also felt like I could ask anyone else in the office about any problems that I had.
Some days were less busy than others. Due to the way some of the projects ended up working out, I ended up having some down time but generally I had a fair amount of work to do.
As I mentioned before, I was given the same kind of work that everyone on the team was doing, which was daunting at first but I felt like it gave me very valuable experience. This included doing work on a couple of large projects and, later on in my placement, leading a project of my own.
I think my technical skills developed a lot during my placement year at Zebra. To start with, I had very little experience developing in web or mobile technologies. By the end of the year, I was proficient in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, multiple JavaScript frameworks (React and Angular) and some experience in Flutter, Android Studio and React Native. On top of this, my ability to use GIT greatly improved along with my communication and team working skills .
The Company
It was an excellent office to be in. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly, we all ate lunch together and had the occasional outing to do bowling or a pub quiz.
There was a good hiring process to the placement, and I went through a full on boarding and induction process once I got to the company.
I was given access to a lot of courses on skills I wanted to learn, as well as support and help from my manager when I needed it.

I would be very much inclined to go back if I was offered a job
The Culture
There were three of us in the office and we all got on really well and would occasionally hang out outside of work.
The placement was based in London, so both my rent and the price of doing stuff like eating out or going for drinks was quite high.
The office was in Central London so there was an abundance of pubs and bars.
