    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Porsche. From the beginning, I felt welcome and was able to settle in quickly. My team were supportive and if I had any questions or issues they were approachable and helpful in answering these. The job included a variety of different tasks and came with a good level of responsibility. I felt my work was valued and important. In addition, the training opportunities I received have helped me develop both professionally and personally.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was quickly made to feel welcome and a valued member of the team. I felt the information I produced was helpful and informative to the users. On a day to day basis, the team were friendly and supportive which created an enjoyable working environment.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I always knew my manager was there if required to support me. Naturally with your own tasks and deadlines, you would work independently which personally helped me grow in confidence. In the long run, I think was an excellent skill to obtain. Over the course of my placement year, my manager provided me with additional tasks and taught me how to correctly run new reports.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of finance and reporting deadlines at month end, the workload on a daily basis would vary slightly. At month end, you were always busy with multiple deadlines to achieve each day. Once month end was over, you still had daily and weekly tasks to complete. The quieter periods were very helpful as you had the opportunity to prepare for the next month end and concentrate on other ad hoc tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My role was focused on distributing the company's key performance indicators on a daily basis to managers. I was responsible for my own deadlines and I felt top management were interested in the data I produced as they would often ask for updates during the working day. In addition, I was responsible for gathering information from various centres to ensure reports fully incorporated results from all the branches and I ensured these were distributed on a timely basis.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My placement role has involved reporting to senior management which has involved a large degree of responsibility and has enhanced my communication skills. Moreover, the presentation training I received has enabled me to build on my presentation skills and will be invaluable for the last year of my degree. Furthermore, my work has involved considerable amount of Excel exposure this knowledge is something that I wouldn't have been able to study in such depth at university and therefore has been invaluable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Porsche have been running the placement scheme for several years so there was a well structured handover. Training opportunities were scheduled throughout the year which gave me insightful information about the company and its products. There was also a number of social events organised for interns to get involved with.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising in Reading is reasonable for the South of England. The salary you receive is enough to cover your rent as well as living expenses.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are plenty of restaurants and bars in the centre of Reading as well as a couple of clubs. I was fortunate to live in a shared house that regularly went out and had an enjoyable time. Reading is also a short train journey away from London if you fancy trying out some new bars or clubs.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was the opportunity to attend Pilates classes as well as regular Bootcamp sessions after work. Colleagues could also get involved in five a side football. Reading as a city offers a wide range of activities to get involved with. Many of the interns were members at the same gym.
