    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was hard work and challenging but that part of the reason it was enjoyable. There was also great travel opportunities, events and socials that made every day different. These were often focused around personal development.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Never felt like just an intern. You are given the pressure of a full time employee but also feel valued and supported.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You are expected to be proactive however if you ask for help and guidance it is always given. In addition a full month of onboarding and a great intern community really helps support you through the year.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varies depending on time of year but overall it is how busty you make yourself. My day job took up about 75% of the week which left time for development, uni work and exploring other parts of the business.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The role I had came with a lot if autonomy running an internal incentive programme generating significant revenue for the company. Although certain aspects had check-ins and approvals, day to day I was given full responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There is a great focus on internal development and promotion in HPE. Between the HR team and my Business Unit I attended so many insightful sessions and got great feedback and day to day opportunities that have given me skills that make me feel very confident gong back to uni and into grad recruitment. Especially being given the opportunity to make mistakes and reflect on these.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was based in Bracknell. This was the largest office with great facilities but slightly dated. However this is soon to be changed to a brand new office. The atmosphere is fairly standard. However there is great events held in the offices from free coffee days to pizza ordered in for lunch. These are great fun and good to network. The Manchester and London offices are more interesting but smaller and you will get different team members in on different days where people come to the office every day in Bracknell.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There is a well organised onboarding plus development days and check ins throughout the year.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot. There are online courses, training days with your teams, development days with other interns and a mentor for 121s.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The majority of opportunities are in Sales or more technical roles but there still is the potential to come back in HR, Marketing, etc.. Would 100% come back if I found the right role. The company culture is 10/10.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, lots of interns live together and lots of events are organised such as trips to Ascot. However its harder to get the full experience when living at home unless you live in Reading already.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is not cheap due to proximity to London but nothing crazy. The wage easily covers living costs in a shared house with other interns.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading has a variety of bars and clubs and lots of other students. Plus when travelling to other offices there is opportunities to experience London and Manchester nightlife.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes volunteering and social events come up through the year.

    4/5
