    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement role was exactly what I was looking for to help me deciding my career aspirations after graduating. It not only showed what I would like to do, but the areas in my degree that I'm fond of. On top of this, it showed me skills that I didn't know that I had while giving me the opportunity to improve them.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that my colleagues appreciate my inputs to what I have to say within the area that I work for even though they have far more experience that I do. Throughout the year, I had opportunities to show my value and get recognized by it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned a on the job coach to support me throughout the year and guided me what I could do focusing on professional development. it's really easy to feel lost when joining a big company, so I really appreciated all the help that I was given throughout my time at Intel.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say quite busy, I was lucky to have been given a fast paced role that fitted my professional personality. I enjoyed, the key to overcome was time management skills, which I got to developed throughout the year.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would say a reasonable amount to what I could handle. I definitely felt I was given responsibility and resulted in growing my maturity. This is strongly linked to feeling valuable. Therefore, my responsibilities grow at the pace that I could handle it which I thought it was key to have a good placement year.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills/ training received put all the content learned at university into a all new perspective. I had the chance to see how the units thought at university come together in the real world, which consolidate my learnings over the last few years. I strongly believe that the skills set that I developed this year will be a plus after graduating and will be my selling point when searching for jobs within the area that I want to work for.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was definitely moments to work and moments to have found. Intel's culture was key to reach the balance between working and having fun. Everyone was always super helpful and never refused to give a hand if I needed. From day one, I felt welcome which translated into a higher motivation throughout the placement.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Good, for the first 5 weeks I was trained by my previous intern while having my on the job coach. I liked the fact that it was a gradual development of the role, meaning during my placement I got the opportunity to add my own contributions to the role and shaped it to my own set of skills.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was training platforms available to us. Intel also allow me to use the linkedIn Learning course to develop the skills that I wanted. On top of this, there was various trainings session on site for us to take advantage of. Throughout the time, as I mentioned before, I was also coached by someone who had a lot expertise which was a crucial for my personal development throughout the year.

  • I would definitely go back to work for Intel as I had a very good experience in terms of personal and professional development.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. There were a variety of intern commits focusing on socials, charity and other areas where we could get involved and take the chance to work together.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I found it reasonable. The houses are not very expense and get I got more money and what I spent on bills and going out. Even to go out, depending on where we go, it wasn't that expensive to have a meal with friends. Plus, it is easy to save on transportation costs since Intel is not too far located for the center of Swindon.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not the most crowed place, but there is definitely clubs around that provide such a good night out.
