    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my experience so far with Travelport. From the get go, there was a clear structure with the placement and I had a lot of support. I struggled at the beginning, however, after a few months I really got the hang of it all. The company have been fairly supportive throught the pandemic as well.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I know I am a valued member to my team and its great to be able to take on different and more responsibilities. Being an intern at Travelport was great as well as the whole company are very aware of your prescence and supportive of you especially in the first few months of starting.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was lucky enough to have a great manager who always made sure I wasn't struggling or needed help. When it the office I would speak to my manager on a daily basis as well as bi-weekly scheduled 1-2-1 meetings where we can catch up properly. The intern programme coordinator, This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions, was great at guiding us through any problems we may have faced. We also got assigned mentors who also worked at Travelport, so I got a lot of help from my menotrs.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Working in the finance department, it was very dependant on the time of the month and year. During month ends, quarter ends and year end, I am the most busiest. This usually last around 2 weeks where I have a lot of work, but after that period is over, the work slows down.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From the beginning, I was already given quite a lot of responsibility with looking after different pieces of work in my team as well as coordinating different charity events with the interns for our corporate social responsibility task. As I understood my role more, I was given more responsibility such as training new team members.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Not so much the work I was doing will help me with my degree but other skills such as time keeping, prioritastion etc. will definately come in useful in my final year. I hope to use these skills wisely and continue my work ethic that I currently have into my last year.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It wasn't dull but wasn't the most amazing atmosphere. Fridays were always great as it was dress down Fridays and fish and chips from the bistro. The people that work at Travelport are really nice so grabbing a coffee/tea with others was always great. The interns livened up the place a little.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Previous year had a really good placement structure set out and were obviously able to enjoy it more as they were in the office for the whole year. However, for my year, I believe they tried to change it up a little by adding in new tasks such as UN goals and entreprenuership which did not really have any structure and no support from the company and we really struggled with them.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were plenty of personal training sessions scheduled throughout the year which I really enjoyed and thought was great. However, obviously because of the pandemic, the half of them were cancelled which is a shame as I was looking forward to the sessions. My favourite session was the colour personality test.

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • A lot of the interns would like to return back to the company as they have had a good time at Travelport. For me personally, it is a great company to work for, however, I would like explore other options and roles out there that aren't related to what my role is currently.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had 28 interns this year so there was a lot and it was very socialble especially at the beginning. I would consider some of them friends for life! With my team, they were mostly parents with young kids so we would not often hangout after work, tend to have team lunches out which was really nice as well. • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The location of the company was not great, you will need a car to get around to most of the places especially if you don't want to eat the food at the bistro or didnt bring a packed lunch. Windsor is the next town away and has decent shops and few clubs, bars and pubs but you will probably get bored. It is 20min train into London though!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Windsor/Reading is proably the only places you can relaly go for nightout unless you get the train into London but be wary of the last train. Not the best in the area, wouldn't really recommend. There are a lot of nice gastro pubs around the local area but would have to drive.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The social club organised events every now and then which were great fun to take part in with the interns and other colleagues. This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions does such a good job in organising and we get a really good rate especially goin gto the theatre in London. There could be more ativities outside of work with teams organising etc but all dependant of the team dynamic.
