    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have absolutely loved my placement year at Warner Bros and I am so grateful I was given the opportunity to work at such an established and interesting company. It has been an amazing experience from start to finish and I have learnt so much about both the company and marketing. Throughout my year, I have had the chance to work on several of WB's exciting franchises and new release film titles, this was a real highlight for me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel extremely valued by my colleagues at Warner Bros. Colleagues tend to treat you like a full time employee rather than an intern. My team made such an effort from day one to make me feel welcome and I hope to stay in contact with my team after my placement.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager provided me with a huge amount of support from day one, I always felt like I could ask as many questions as I needed and no question was a stupid one! My manager would schedule weekly catch ups to monitor how I was getting on at work and also in my personal life, as going from uni to a working environment is a big change. At 3 different points throughout the year, my manager also set aside some time to review my progress and provide me with beneficial feedback, she would also listen to what I would like to achieve during my time at WB. I couldn't have asked for a better manager.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In my first month, I completed set daily tasks but soon after this I became involved in a variety of projects that kept me busy. I expressed to my manager that I liked to be busy and would offer to support other team members with their workload which was appreciated. No two days at WB are the same, there is always something new and exciting to work on which kept me engaged throughout.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During the first month or so of my placement, I was given the same weekly tasks to complete to ensure I wasn't overwhelmed with the amount of work. Gradually throughout the year, my team provided me with more responsibility and work to complete. Around half way through my placement, a team member left the company, my manager put their trust in me to take on some of that workload, I thoroughly enjoyed having this extra responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed so much as a person both professionally and personally due to my placement year at Warner Bros. I feel so much more prepared to graduate and progress into a career in marketing. I would love to return to Warner Bros in the future and continue to develop my skills even further. I now know that I would like to pursue a career in marketing and preferably work for a media company like WB. A placement year at Warner Bros is a truly invaluable experience that I would encourage anyone to apply for.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was great! Everyone is really sociable and friendly. Throughout the year there are many opportunities to network and get to know other employees, alongside numerous company events. When a new film is released, the company usually incorporate the release into the office e.g. bringing the Annabelle doll into work! There is always something fun going on.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My whole internship was very organised, during our handover week we started off with an induction from HR which was beneficial and then later on that month we had a morning learning about the company and its origins. The interns are enrolled on training courses, invited to company events etc. Warner Bros are very organised as a company.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The interns would have to complete mandatory training courses that very were beneficial and we would also have the opportunity to take part in a training course paid by the company, I chose excel as that was a skill I wanted to develop. There were also a number of optional workshops/talks that interns could enroll on, I found the talks with senior members of the company very inspiring.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    Travel loan

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although Warner Bros currently do not offer a graduate scheme, it is positive to see that a lot of full time employees were once interns. I think this is a really encouraging sign and I hope I am given the opportunity to work at Warner Bros again in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was really good for us interns, there are over 40 new interns each year! We would go for drinks after work most weeks and also go out on the weekends. Teams also spend time together out of the office (especially around Christmas) which is really nice. During my time at WB, there were also a few whole company parties which were really exciting.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London, as expected, has higher costs of living and socialising than students are used to at University. However, if you do your research, you can usually find some good deals. Sometimes bars around the office will have a happy hour which can save you a bit of money on drinks!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The Nightlife in London is great, I wish I had chance to go to more places whilst I was in London. Around the office, there are many pubs and bars to visit that are walking distance away. The office is located in a very central spot, Covent Garden and Soho are only around 15 minutes walk from the office.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were several opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, such as talks from inspiring people in the industry, company celebrations etc. Warner Bros also provide employees with two days off a year for volunteer work, the majority of the interns took part in Sleep Out to raise money for Centrepoint who help the young homeless.
