    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • The Teach First Taster experience was actually very enjoyable, thoroughly informative, and all-round impressive. I was debating whether to apply or not due to my location and education in Scotland, however I am now absolutely thrilled and very excited to submit my application to the Training Programme! It is a very supportive, safe space to get tips on your teaching and to gain a great idea of what Teach First does, why, and how effective they are.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Teach First has been brilliantly supportive and really made everyone feel welcome - even though it was through a zoom call, I felt part of the group and included in the experience. I received excellent and informative feedback on my teaching of an 8-minute lesson, along with opportunity to reflect on my own lesson. I felt like I was good friends with many of the people involved by the end!

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • Due to the virtual nature of the taster it was difficult to judge support given, however I felt very supported from what could be given and we were given an abundance of guidance as to what to do and when throughout the two days. The hosts of the experience were helpful and clear with the tasks and activities they were handing out, so no complaints there.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was quite a large extent of opportunity to self-evaluate throughout the two days, however due to the nature of my voluntary activities, my tutoring, and my part-time job, I self-evaluate constantly. I have, however, had it affirmed that self-evaluation is one of my strongest skills and I will definitely use it in my teaching studies to come. It is simply that I already had a good level of competency at that.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The timetable of the virtual experience was detailed and confirmed well in advance of the experience and was largely stuck to - the structure and pacing was excellent. I never felt particularly rushed at any point except for the two-minute group presentation of an issue in education - it felt a little bit short in order for anyone to say anything of worth, however it was still structured well and the timings were kept to.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The atmosphere was open, supportive and very enjoyable - I would 100% recommend taking part, especially during lockdown where I haven't really seen any of my friends or colleagues in a long while. It was good fun, and there was even a little informal 'pub quiz' at the end of the first day to make it even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was very handy in knowing that Teach First expects you to invest in them so that they can invest in you, so the company clearly wants you to do well and develop before and after you consider working with them. It is the exact sort of company and organisation that mirrors my own beliefs.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • 5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I am certain I want to teach now, as I enjoyed the two days of teaching experience far more than my entire last semester of my degree - research and development does not suit me as a career, but teaching is something where you get to lift each other up instead of simply building yourself to be the best.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The experience did not cost anything as it was online, and they have more than compensated for everything you put in by giving you more insight and opportunity into teaching careers and studies than you could ever need. Teach First really do invest in each and every person involved in their programmes and experiences!

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There was a short 'pub quiz' at the end of the first day which I found extremely enjoyable, and it let you work with the others on the course in a less formal setting. This allowed us to get to know the others in a more comprehensive manner, which I felt was important.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There are lots of experiences and opportunities offered by or suggested by Teach First on the experience, including Action Tutoring and Team Up - both of which are great pathways to activities that are very rewarding and worthwhile. They gave ample opportunity for enquiries about both at the end of the second day.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • Absolutely - I have in fact already done so! I pass on Teach First's details onto all my friends that are interested in teaching because it is so highly acclaimed and does such amazing work. The taster experience is simply another example of Teach First doing the work they do every day to the highest quality!
