About You
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting other like minded students during this insight, to support a mission we're truly passionate about- ending educational inequality. Over the past two-days I learnt a lot about myself, developed my skills and even taught a lesson, which is something I haven't done before. I really liked the 'debate and develop' part of the Taster Experience the most!
Everyone participated in the activities, and I felt encouraged to put my hands up and get involved with discussions and debates. The Teach First team was very supportive throughout and they were happy to help us whenever we needed help! Working in small groups meant we were able to listen to other people's views and voice our own.
From the start to the end, I felt incredibly supported both from the Teach First team and other students. It was a great atmosphere and a very positive working environment. We received guidance at the start of every task, to make sure we knew what we had to do, and we also received endless support throughout the task to make sure we produced the highest quality of work! Support and feedback was frequently given so we could improve.
All the skills and competencies that Teach First look for, are transferable to all areas of my degree studies and much more. Throughout the two days, I developed and enhanced my team-work skills, organisation, planning, public speaking and so much more! The skills and feedback will continue to allow me to grow and improve.
The Company
We had a time table for the two days, which was very structured. This was great because we could easily refer to the timetable to track progress and also guide us through what was required from each lesson. The insight also structured in breaks and lunch breaks, which is also quite nice.
A very positive, friendly and encouraging atmosphere. I felt comfortable to talk amongst a large group, felt at ease to put up my hand and answer questions, and also through the quiz, I networked with other students. everyone was incredibly encouraging, and we had an ample of opportunities to make new friends along the way.
During every task, the Teach First team and facilitators offered ample amount of valuable feedback to each student. This feedback is very useful because it allows us to develop further and grow. Each activity was designed to help us work on the main competencies and qualities, and how we could improve to strengthen these.

Everything Else
The Teach First Taster Experience was a 2-day insight programme, not paid.
Throughout the insight, we had the opportunity to network and meet previous trainees and alumni from Teach First. This was great to hear their experience. We also had the opportunity to meet employees from other companies and firms, for example Action Tutoring and TeamUp- which are both tuition based companies.
After completing day one, the Teach First team created an hour quiz. This was a great opportunity to meet other students and also engage in an interactive and fun social event. I thoroughly enjoyed the quiz, as a way to wind-down. It was a great way to also casually chat to the Teach First recruitment team.
I learnt that the employees/ trainees can also get involved in a Summer Project, which they can explore a different area beyond teaching. Some employees have had the opportunity to travel and teach abroad. There are also opportunities to gain a masters degree as part of the Teach First Programme as well!
100%! For those interested in teaching, I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend as a way of gaining a 'taster' of what being a teacher is really like. More importantly, this insight is a great stepping stone to learn more about the opportunities available at Teach First as well.
