    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement year at BMW. I learnt a lot and it is a really good organisational environment to work during a placement year. I felt like a key member of the team and I enhanced many skills. The culture at BMW is really relaxed and it's a place where you can be yourself.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone from my team supported me greatly since day 1. Everyone made sure I was okay and every colleague valued my work. My team members always trusted me with important tasks, that made me feel valued and important within the team. One of the reasons for my professional growth during this year was the support of my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager always checked on me on a daily basis. Whenever I had a problem or a question about a task that I was working on, my manager always had time to help me and make me understand what I should be doing. I even had meetings with my manager to talk and evaluate my life outside work.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some weeks are busier than other ones. But I was as busy as I wanted to be. If I wanted more work to do, I would ask my colleagues for additional tasks. And if I needed time to do some university work I could ask for it and it would be permitted.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like my manager gave me a big amount of responsibility since the early days. Everyone trusted my skills so they were confortable to give me important tasks to do. Since my first month at BMW I had performed many presentations and I was responsible for the monthly reporting which is key.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I enhanced skills like team working, presentation, decision making, problem solving and adaptability. These are some of the key skills that everyone should have. These skills will help me during my last year at university and will be essential for my first graduate job. I am really happy that I could develop these skills and I'm more confident about myself and my capabilties

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The culture at BMW is really relaxed and it allows you to be yourself. There is no dress code so you can feel comfortable in your favourite clothes in the office! Everyone is really nice and it's easy to build new relationships and develop your network. I really enjoyed my time at BMW and how relaxed I could be at the office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was well organised. In my first week at the placement, I received training from the previous intern which helped me a lot. I will do the same to the upcoming intern. This is a really good scheme because I felt more comfotbale learning everything from someone that was previously in my position.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My team always trusted me and believed in my capabilities. I fell like I delivered great value to the company especially during the pandemic times. I attended many training sessions and workshops and my manager always made sure I attened those because they were impostant for my development and understanding of the industry.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • BMW doesn't offer jobs for interns but if you decide to apply for a graduate job after university you will automatically have a good reference beacuse you already worked for the company. So you definitly won't get a job offer during your placement but here is a good change they will hire you after you finish university.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • BMW had around 30 interns in 2019/2020. We always planned things to do together like houseparties and meals. I felt like there was a good envoirment between the interns which made the placement year really amusing. Some of the people that I met will be my friends for a long time!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living and socialising is not expensive at all. It's a small city so it's easy to find cheap places to eat and shop. I would say it's a fair price to pay for accomodation and socialising. London is really close as well but obviously it will be more expensive!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are some pubs arpund the area that I worked. The nigthlife isn't great but you can still have a good time with friends and colleagues. I believe there are better places with a better nightlife but this isn't really an important fact for me when I decided where to undertake my placement year

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Some of the oppurtunities that we giving to us were: skydiving, trekking in the Saarah and volunteer work. I participated in the PGA Championship and it was a great experience that I will never forget. There are many oppurtunities that are fantastic and unforgetablle. I'm thankful for BMW because they allowed me to experience new things.
