    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was really great fun and I think the grad recruitment team did a great job pulling everything together in such a short amount of time!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Everyone at the firm made a real effort to reach out and welcome us and they were actually interested in our experiences, getting to know us and happy to answer our questions.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Overall, I felt there was a good level of guidance and support. The grad recruitment team responded quickly to emails and developed a site for us to use during our scheme which was very useful. Deadlines on tasks they set were perhaps a bit vague and there could have been more guidance there.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information I received definitely assisted in my knowledge of the firm and I think it the scheme pushed me to improve my networking skills, which is very useful. However I wouldn't say I developed any other skills that would particularly help my degree.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was really well structured. They packed in a lot of sessions and managed to balance this with time for breaks too.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was really kind and jovial. Even the partner I had a virtual coffee with was down-to-earth and we were able to have a laugh and talk as if we were friends. It set a great atmosphere where I felt comfortable asking questions.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm offered case study activities both as extra-curriculars and as part of the scheme. I think these were really important for our personal tailing / development as they gave us insight on typical trainee tasks and a more hands-on approach to law. Further, we did receive feedback on the case studies.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • From giving me a greater insight on life of a trainee to how BCLP operates as a business there was a definite effort to help show us what working in the firm would be like. Especially, they were able to demonstrate the culture of the firm really well considering everything was virtual.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It really helped me understand the company culture. Through the scheme they really ddi show us that collaboration, inclusion and diversity, and innovation were not just topics they pay lip service to The firm showed us that they truly cared about through several sessions focused just on these elements of their culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was very valuable. Not only did it reinforce my desire to work for the firm but it also showed me all the different routes I could take my career while working at the firm. This has helped me to make some key decisions in regard to my future career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • They paid us for participating in the vacation scheme and they also reimbursed us for costs related to the two social activities during the week by providing us with food vouchers. I thought this was really kind and it was a testament to how much the firm valued us and our time.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes they did a really great job of trying to maintain the socialising aspect of the scheme despite the virtual element. There was the opportunity to arrange a virtual coffee, and after all sessions the emails of the hosts were provided so that we could follow up with any questions.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking and opportunities were good. I think the evening social was actually really fun and they did well to find a team working activity that we could all do together while being online The lunch was also good. With things being virtual there were some technical issues which impacted the time we had during lunch but these were resolved relatively quickly.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, I felt there wasn't too much emphasis on this within the scheduled sessions but through coffees I was able to find out some more information about the societies at BCLP. Aside from CSR and pro-bono, I still don't feel I have a good big picture view of all the activities the firm does outside of work.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend! It was really insightful and generally quite good fun. The other participants on the scheme were lovely and we all did zooms outside of the schedule and got along really well. I think I learned a lot more about different areas of law than I would of done on a traditional vac scheme.
