  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Great experience! I learnt so much about business areas i hadn't been exposed to previously and was able to grow my learning substantially. I was able to develop the ability to look after big projects which was a great taster of what my future career will hold. I thought the company culture made it a great place to learn and work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was very fortunate to get along with my team very well, where we were able to be friends in and out of the office. I felt that all colleagues were great in being there and helping you grow and learn. There was always a friendly atmosphere in the office.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager always provided key feedback on my performance enabling me to grow. My manager provide constructive feedback regularly to allow me to be the best in my role and look at areas of weakness into greater depth. My manager has supported me on external things such as writing an great CV.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The daily level of being busy fluctuates, for example you could spend a whole day at a customer or partner meeting however that will not be every week. Where as other days you may be busy with focusing on learning and development. Being able to manage your own calendar allows you to tailor this to what works best for yourself.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Through the internship you definitely need to show you are willing to learn and grow to develop the level of responsibilities you have. There are some responsibilities that are not focused on to where you fit in your team however through your internship you do find yourself working on tasks with greater business impact.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Taking into consideration i am not doing a technical degree, the skills i have built such as organisational/task management too understanding working in sales in greater depth. It all ties in to my business degree and to build those skills i need for my future career to a high level.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was always friendly, you were always able to stop and have a chat , ask for support or share ideas with anyone. However everyone respected that there was work to be done so there was a nice balance between work and conversations. The offices were very open and bright which made the atmosphere better.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was well organised in terms of my manager having set items for myself to complete as a part of my role. However there were other things outside of my role i was completing, so it allowed myself to also take control of how i organised my tasks during my internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This was great! There was always encouragement to learn from organisation wide learning days too all training days you could attend. There are a vast amount of exams or courses you can complete to develop your personal training and expertise in tech. You also have ability to create things such as Power Apps for your personal development.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • For myself personally before completing my internship i knew i wanted to take a couple of years out to travel after university. However i know that after i could always apply back to Microsoft or other partner firms. Additionally i had support with regards to applying for Microsoft not in the UK.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social atmosphere we were all friends! Everyone wanted to get to know everyone and it really made the internship great. We also had social secs who organised social events for all the interns which were always very fun. There are a range of opportunities where you can socialise and work with interns across the organisation.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socializing where nothing short of what you expect with southern prices. However i found that it was always affordable and i didn't have to budget too much because the area were not London prices for example. You can also live in student areas which make the living situations a lot cheaper.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was nothing more than you would expect for a town, its not a huge nightlife like Bristol or Manchester but there is a decent range of bars and pubs for you to socialize and get together for an affordable price. The interns definitely made the nightlife better as we were all friends.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are great amount of opportunities from join Microsoft football teams and playing abroad in tournaments. To attending offsite's with your team or events supporting 'Women in Tech'. There is always a lot of different things you can be a part of. There are also international trips which you may have the opportunity to be apart of dependent on your team.
