    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. I enjoyed the different aspects of my role, which lead to a huge increase in personal development and allowing me to really identify area's I needed to vastly improve on, while still maintaining my strengths I believe that my personal growth from only a year in career has dramatically accelerated me and allowed me to mature so much.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • After the initial "importer syndrome" wore off, (only took a couple of days). I really enjoyed my team, they made me feel valued, allowed me to feel at ease with asking some questions that needed to be asked as someone whose new, I felt valued from the first meeting and only grew in the input I had with it growing throughout the year.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was perfect, whether it was asking internal and who to go to regarding certain projects. Or external and more of a career focus discussion. I felt very comfortable with my manager and soon came to be having "normal discussions with him". If I ever go into management his style is one I would love to replicate and hopefully work for someone very similar in the near future.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy to keep myself entertained and working. The great thing about working for such a big company is that regardless of how "busy" your normal day job is, you can always go off and find things to do, in order to become busy. The great thing is you always decide, so you might have more on one week then the next, so you can cycle that which I took great advantage off.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility, while this may seem shocking at first. Looking back my first month the responsibility, I was given at the start was huge, however now I would take that job on easily. The responsibility curve is something you decide, I was feeling that it goes hand-in-hand with the learning curve and allows you to really grow and develop as a person based off the responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • While performing the tasks and projects I couldn't see how this would help my degree( Business Studies with Project Management and Operations). While I learnt more soft-skills such as time-management,organisation and public speaking skills, I wouldn't say they directly have helped me. However looking back on my placement the real-world learning I have made and also the additional learning will make my final year studies much easier, because of everything else I have learnt. From running multiple Projects at each time and working on them to being in charge of huge amounts of data and detail has definitely become a key area I have worked and developed on

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very comfortable and easy to come in. In reality it was something that I would love to try and incorporate into any office I work with. The atmosphere is a great reason to work for this company, the relaxation and trusting atmosphere allowed me to come and start working as quick as possible to ensure I was comfortable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement set up was really well organised. It allowed us to work and grow together as the fellow interns with the fellow Intern community.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • For my team personally we had large amounts of training and development. As an intern year we had many area's we could train and develop but also allowed to allow to grow in our own different way, for example we we're allowed to take full days out and highlight our area's we wanted to learn and grow. However we also had a large amount of personal training and development to allow ourselves to grow and develop in the first overall development of our professional year.

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects within the org are very appealing. While there is graduate role's available we are always kept well informed and in the loop for each overall working and practice of that. Each step is made very clear to us all and we are all well informed of each step. With the actual environment and working atmosphere being as enjoyable as it is it's very clear to see why we would want to come back.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The Social Scene with everyone was really good. So while we had around 56 interns for our year, we all got on really well, especially with the other EIC. This made the social scene a key part of the Placement, this was really useful for us while we're translating to Full-time work. It very much feels like University at the start which became a real advantage and very helpful.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Coming from Essex where the price of living and socialising is very similar to Essex, it allowed me to become ready for the price and cost of living. In reality the price was very similar to Essex/London when it came to socializing and just was cheaper with the coat of living, coupled with everything it was really easy for us to work and socialistic wit everyone. I know some people from the North however found it a bit expensive.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was good, with Reading just up the road we we're able to always find a place out if needed or a nice place for everyone to soclaise. It become every boring however and we often ended up at the same place week on week, however each overall night was always good and we would often change the nights around to have a good time with everyone.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In terms of activities to get involved outside of work are huge. For some of us we we're able to go to Munich with the football team which was an activity outside of work, this was huge and a really good experience. We also run a large amount of activities external to work such as quizzes/socials and themed idea's, Which allowed us to really grow together as an Intern year. Finally if there was something which people were passionate about and it wasn't included we we're lucky enough to set it up.
