About You
It was extremely insightful, I was able to immerse myself within the bank's culture, albeit through virtual means. Through a series of interactive thought-provoking sessions, panels and truly enriching mentorship.
I felt very valued all throughout and my buddy was essential for this, as the frequent calls I had with him and other amazing people at GS were highly motivating and enriching to my understanding of the firm.
I felt I received a lot of guidance through the mentorship available and frequent HR communications.
I developed a comprehensive overview of how trades flow through the heart of the system.
The Company
It was very well structured to fit around exams but also offer a wide range of available sessions and initiatives to take part in.
Fantastic. I feel extremely privileged to have been able to have taken part in the spring internship. I have gained many insights through the sessions organised, and through the research project my buddy set me. I dove deep into an area that was extremely interesting and the opportunity to present my findings was a very useful exercise. Thank you so much to all who helped organise this internship in these turbulent times.
There was huge investment on behalf of the mentorship programme which allowed a lot of focused attention on my individual development. I found working on the research project a task which I could really take ownership of. However, I always had my mentor to turn to in case I had any questions and the time he spent helping me understand concepts was for me the true highlight of the experience.
The insight helped me deeply understand what it would be like to have a full-time role with the company by interacting with a range of current employees from analysts to seniors. Everyone reflected the same values and the culture of 'excellence' being the standard operating norm at Goldman Sachs. Everyone is very motivating and I feel this would prevail in a full-time role.
The insight helped me understand the company culture massively, without it I wouldn't have been able to experience first-hand what fuels people working at Goldman Sachs to be so resilient and driven. The culture of the company reflects the status it has perceived, the attention to detail is impeccable and the sense of community through 'one GS' is very motivating.
The virtual meetings that I was able to have with employees from the firm and the interactive sessions of the different divisions were incredibly informative content. I think that it has cemented my desire to work in finance and founded it more by having a greater understanding of the intricacies this entails.
Everything Else
I was paid by Goldman Sachs for the spring internship programme. I am very grateful for them having done this as I feel they could easily not have done so due to the format changing and us (the interns) no longer being present in the office. This just goes to show how much the firm values the talent it recruits.
Through the mentorship scheme, there were a lot of facilities for my buddy to arrange for me to speak with a variety of people both in the London offices and abroad with his co-workers in New York and Singapore. An opportunity that I got to do as the internship became virtual, otherwise, I would've been unable to have this perspective.
There were great opportunities for networking as long as you made the effort to reach out to the contacts we were given.
Yes! There were a lot of charity and fundraising activities that are aligned with the firms view on improving the impact on the wider community. I was really impressed with the initiatives taken to encourage impact investment and fostering creativity through GS donating to causes which lead in the way of innovation.
I would certainly recommend this insight to a friend, or anyone interested in working at an investment bank who is simply curious and motivated to learn more. The internship was the opportunity to do just that and I am grateful for it as it has shaped how I view what precise sector I am interested in pursuing rather than a general understanding. But of course, there is so much more to learn.
