    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work was challenging but achievable. I was given many different tasks and worked with many different people. I was able to try out lots of different areas within the IT department: networking, application support, server support, desktop support, web development etc. I really enjoyed my time there and ended up staying for 14 months.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I settled in straight away. Everyone in the office was supportive and friendly. There is a great atmosphere, with out of office events to get involved in too. As I was given real responsibility, people were coming to me to help fix their problems and assist with tasks. This made me feel very valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management is very good and approchable. We agreed clear achievable goals at the start of me placement and had regular meetings to check how I was getting on and to assess my work load. It was easy to say if I felt I had too much work, or not enough.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were busy days and some not so busy days, but this goes with the support side of things. You don't know day to day how much your assistence is going to be needed. There were always background tasks thought to keep me occupied when there was no immediate work to be done.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was the primary contact for the Terminal Automation System. I also got involved in a variety of different projects of all sizes where I was more than just an observer.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The general skills I developed will be useful at Uni and beyond into my future career. I think it depends on your course as to whether it would assist you in your final year.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a really good atmosphere in the office. People would often buy sweets and cakes for the office to share (especially if it was someones birthday). There was also social conversation daily making it a relaxed atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was really well organised from the assessment day, through the monthly catch-ups, to deciding an extended date to leave.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company gave us chances to go on many training courses that the full-time employees attended. These included skills to help with my future career and presentation skills.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • good i hope!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The company put us in touch before we started, and we ended up getting a house together which helped with living costs. We socialised together and with other young people from the office.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It depends where you're coming from as to whether it would seem expensive. I thought the drinks were quite highly priced at local bars, but still affordable on the placement salary. Our house was very cheap, but we could have been lucky. If you have a car, it may be best to rent in Coventry and commute, rather than finding somewhere in Warwick/Leamington Spa.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Warwick doesn't have much of a nightlife apart from some restaurants, pubs and bars. But Leamington Spa is good on certain days of the week and is very close.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is a sports and social club. We also had boat trips/picnics on the river some lunch times and went to the pub after work.

    4/5
