About You
It was an extremely enjoyable insight, despite the fact that it was made virtual given the current situation. We were able to communicate with both recruiters as well as those who worked in the division that we were interning in. We were also assigned a research task that we were to present to our mentors at the end of the insight.
Many employees took time out of their day to make contact and communicate with us, and there were specific sessions where we were in small groups with a recruiter in an informal situation where they were happy to answer any queries about the programme or anything related to the insight as whole. Any emails we sent were promptly replied to.
We received guidance through both sessions set up by campus recruitment as well as additional sessions set up by our mentors. I had catch up sessions throughout the programme and any queries or questions I had were addressed to. Recruitment emailed out schedules the evening before which was extremely helpful.
There was a session on wellness and resilience which is very fitting in the situation that we are currently in - very applicable to undergraduate studies as we proceed through our degrees
The Company
It was very well structured. We were given timetable/schedules via email from campus recruitment before each day, with links to register. Access to these sessions were very convenient (through Zoom calls) and we were reminded of them in the mornings as well.
I enjoyed the atmosphere, it was extremely friendly and everyone was very willing to speak to us and make time for us if we had any questions. Despite the virtual aspect which was very new to people, we were able to communicate very effectively and easily via email and video
We had sessions with our 'virtual buddies' who gave time out of their day to talk to us about the firm and to address any queries. They also gave insight into how the company is structured and were able to take time for us despite having to do their daily work themselves.
There were sessions with those who worked at the firm full-time who had also partook in the same progress that we were in, and they were able to describe their experiences and progression from an undergraduate level into a career. That was very useful to speak to people who were in our shoes a couple of years ago
There was a lot of talk about company 'culture' and how the firm pushes collaboration and interaction within people not even in the same area of work as you. I was able to hear about specific social initiatives that the firm engaged in which was very nice to hear as the firm engaged in initiatives outside of their main business
Despite being a early insight scheme, the detail in the programme and the people we were able to meet enabled me to realise which areas of the firm that I was interested and which areas I would not be willing to work with. However, I would need active experience to realise my future career path more concretely.
Everything Else
There was limited networking opportunity due to the fact that it was an online experience
The experience was online, there were no networking events.
Yes, we were introduced to social initiatives that the firm engaged in as well as speaking to people who were involved. There was also community events that the firm engaged in and they were keen to let us know about giving back to the community - emphasising that it is not just about the business that they do and there is another side to the firm
I would definitely recommend this, I enjoyed it a lot despite the virtual aspect, and I was given a very good insight into the firm.
