About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement. The Deutsche Bank team made the virtual spring week informative and engaging. In comparison to other virtual experiences, the team has done the best job in terms of hosting a Spring Program. The content provided was more than ample, but not too technical especially coming from a non-finance background. The quiz's helped to reinforce everything I had learned through the 2 days online.
I felt that Deutsche Bank really invested time and energy into hosting the spring week and this was evident throughout the whole program. All the work showed related back to the values I was initially taught and by the end of the placement I could see clearly where I fit into Deutsche Bank and would be happy returning to the back in the near future for another internship or graduate role.
Deutsche Bank did an amazing job of providing support and guidance. They provided a buddy who was able to answer any questions pertaining to the spring week. The team were always quick to respond and offered personal phone prior to the virtual spring week and after to provide support. They offered a virtual platform too.
There were various skills that were learned through the spring week. It solidified my knowledge and passion for Deutsche Bank and provided invaluable experience into an investment bank and the financial industry. I learned about various terms and terminology used in investment banking, most specifically within the technology department. The information mainly pertained to Deutsche Bank but could be applied to all investment banks.
The Company
The virtual experience was very well structured. Deutsche Bank provided a timeline of what was planned for the internship and explained how to access these sessions too in the initial welcoming session. There were sufficient breaks and the teaching and practical sections of the spring week were well-timed. I felt as if the panel sessions could have been for longer to gain a better understanding from the panelists but apart from this, it was perfect.
The atmosphere that Deutsche Bank instilled a sense of fun and excitement into the spring week. The team was very energising and passed this energy onto the participants. The virtual experience felt seamless with the addition of webcams which helped to see everyone and those that were speaking. Overall it was very enjoyable.
The panel session was very useful. The analysts have mostly finished their first rotation at the bank so they had a year's experience and they were able to convey their experiences at the bank and what it was like to work there. We were able to ask personal questions related to their well-being and their work-life balances and the quality of work required.
The virtual experience provided the perfect ground to learn about Deutsche Bank's culture and how it helped them reach their own aims. We were later tested on the culture which helped reinforce my knowledge of what had been learned. The speakers also provided their own experiences of how the company culture has been beneficial to them.
The spring week provided ample content in helping me decide whether a career in investment banking is for me or not and also helped me decide what division I should apply for in the coming application season. It provided a unique insight into how my skills and knowledge would be applied within an investment bank.
Everything Else
I was paid an amount for attending the experience. This was only a fraction of what was originally promised prior to COVID-19 occurring but more than I expected given the current situation. They also offered to reimburse expenses too as well as provide accommodation as well before the pandemic occurred.
There were no networking or social event opportunities given to the current pandemic occurring so this was not currently possible but they have offered events in the near future if the situation changes. They did offer two panel sessions in which we were able to ask questions to different people at the bank. I later connected with them on LinkedIn to further my networking.
N/A
Yes, I did. My buddy explained to me all the initiatives available outside of work that he took part in to develop both his skills and help him fit into the bank whilst joining. The virtual internship also highlighted the mental health wellbeing scheme and how I could possibly get involved with them too.
I would definitely recommend choosing the Deutsche Bank spring week as opposed to other spring weeks for those that applied but could not attend as they originally clashed. I would recommend it for anyone that is seeking an insight into the financial industry to decided whether it is for them or not.
