    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have highly enjoyed my placement at NBCUniversal. There are so many opportunities for networking and expanding your professional network as well as making friends! The company has a lovely, friendly atmosphere and encourages every individual to do their best. I have enjoyed particularly working for a global media company, and the benefits this brings - you feel you're a part of something very special!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the beginning of my placement, I had a lot of training to enable me to support the other members of the team - it is great to feel valued and useful by your colleagues. During busy periods, I was relied upon to help my colleagues preparing essential reports/ files to meet business deadlines.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I received a 2-week handover from my previous intern which really helped me gain a base of understanding for my tasks and responsibilities. Throughout my placement, I have been supported by my manager and others members of my team with any questions I have had.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of my position (in finance) I experience varying business levels. Quarter close periods can be very busy however, with good time management, the workload is reasonable. There is never nothing to do!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given lots of responsibility during my placement and this has increased as I have become more confident and knowledgeable. Tasks range from sending emails to senior members of the company, to preparing reports and files for business deadlines. If you show you're keen and capable, you will have much more responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel I have developed invaluable skills during my placement in business conduct, organisation, time management and confidence. All of these I think will help with my discipline as I return to full time study, and specific skills for my future career. I have learned much more about the working world, the finance industry and what I would like to do as job as a result of my placement at NBCUniversal.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There is a very friendly atmosphere in the office - everyone is always willing to help with queries and support each other. This encourages great productivity and good collaboration.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I found out about the internship through my university - I may not have found out about it otherwise. It took a long time from my initial application (November), Video interview (January) to my final job offer (April) and I received communication every month or so that my application was still under review. Once I was offered a job, communication was good and I was well prepared to start in July.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There have been a lot of training opportunities throughout my placement - the company run a future leaders program and we have been encouraged to learn more about this because they would like to recruit from individuals they have direct experience of.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Travel loan

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would very much like to work for NBCUniversal in the future. The company values its employees very highly and encourages personal and professional development continually. With a reference from my team, I think it would be easier to get a job if a vacancy opens in the future.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was an intern network of over 70 young people - there were a lot of social events organised and it was easy to make friends from a very early stage. Working in London, it was nice to go to the pub with friends and work colleagues together.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked in London which has very high cost of living - budgeting is a very useful skill to learn and practise.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good nightlife in the capital.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
