    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it massively, I gained insight into one of the most incredible and renowned company's in the world - and that experience is invaluable. I made some amazing memories with my team and I managed to network with numerous people in the company, from intern to exec level - which I have now made life long connections with.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt massively valued by my colleagues. Not just my team (which were ALWAYS amazing and so supportive in everything I wanted to do,) but people in the wider company too. The culture at NBCUniversal is fantastic, it is like you are in one big family and everyone is is happy to know you.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was always given immense guidance by my management and supervisors in everything I wanted to do. If something wasn't clear I could very easily approach and it would get resolved post haste. Not only this NBCUniversal is one of the only big companies that offer a Mentorship Programme, so another incredible opportunity to gain some guidance from someone in the company.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied for me, occasionally I was super busy which I loved, and other occasions a bit less so which was still nice to focus on other things (such as my uni work or refining my CV). I was never rushed off my feet to the extent I was very stressed, I could always rely on my team to get a helping hand.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was personally given a fair bit of responsibility, gradually more and more so throughout the course of my placement. It was never thrown on me out of the blue but I would work on things with my team and then gradually I would gain more responsibility on that particular task.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Everything I learnt on my placement is so invaluable and I will really be able to implement in my final year of university and beyond. I have personally felt I have grown so much by gaining insight into the business world. As well as this, it gave me that independence that will really help me in my final year.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and approachable. Everyone was so happy to be in the office and around each other day to day. Friday's were obviously the best day (especially when it is summer Fridays as we finish at 2pm!) as everyone was so happy to start the weekend and just in the best mood!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Yes it was fairly well organised. We had lots of intern events which were super fun to get to know each other better and had screenings in the office we could go to which is always a bonus! You could also contact the career team with any problem/question you had and they would always support you in every way/.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I went on a few training courses which was awesome (and amazing for your knowledge and CV!), I did Photoshop & InDesign training, grammar courses and writing courses. Not only this had special meetings with guest speakers to take us on courses about personal development and confidence which was amazing and so enlightening.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would really love to go back to NBCUniversal when I leave uni. As once you get a taste of the film industry and a company as big as NBCU, you will definitely want to go back! There are also lots of opportunities you can get involved in, such as the future leaders programme which you could get involved in after your internship!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes of course! So when I wasn't going out with my team I made some amazing friends within the interns, which I never thought would happen! There were also special intern events set up by the careers team which were always super fun and amazing opportunity to make some friends.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I mean London is an expensive place, I was lucky enough to be able to live at home but commuting alone was around £10.00 a day. But I would try and bring in lunch from home to save some money and occasionally may venture for a nice lunch with my team on a Friday or something!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was great! There were numerous pubs and clubs and bars to choose from in the area, literally so much variety! I personally just went to bars but yeah the part of London I worked in was literally great for going out and even inviting your friends up to meet you after work.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes if you wanted to. There were lots of gyms around the office and fitness places, they were pricey as it was in the center of London. But there are lots to get involved in if you do look around and try to find the oppportunites you could get involved in.
