    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the level of responsibility my team gave me throughout the year by giving me challenging and critical projects for the business. This allowed me to be more proactive in my working style and boosted my confidence too!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my line manager and team through monthly award and receiving a recognition award from our HRVP for my work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly check ins with my line manager to make sure that i was being supported throughout my tasks and contribution on projects. My Team had weekly check in where we could share top tips and best practices which was really helpful!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During my placement, i had a great work life balance with the option of flexible working. My workload did vary but stayed consistent in the sense, i was never bored! I always knew the upcoming tasks and projects i had by keeping engaged with my stakeholders and digging my teeth in to new projects!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like the role i was given for my placement had a lot of responsibility and confidentiality, this was positive for me as it gave the confidence that i could do these tasks on my own with the right support. This taught me to always be thorough and detailed throughout my work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I definitely think i have a better understand on how the human resources function operates in a big organisation such as Unilever and how each aspect is divided and conquered. Also, the work routine has put in a good place for my third year to be more organised than ever! This experience will help me out in all of my modules but particularly my HR and management ones!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was a perfect mix of quiet and busy which is something that i definitely thrived in. The office environment was very modern and encourages employees to have walking meetings or to move to different areas of the office so you are never bored.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well organised by having check ins with our future careers team every few months to ask about our progress and how we were getting on. Every aspect of the placement was explained carefully to us and we were well informed on the layout.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My company allowed me to become a workshop facilitator through training and to go on a neurodiverse awareness course which was an interest of mine. I had attended a bootcamp week every 3 months which was week for our team to upskill and learn more about different apsects of the business which was really enjoyable.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Fast track to the grad scheme assessment centre is available to the placement students, however, only a select few get chosen. The assessment centre does not guarantee hire and it is very competitive. They talk about options for direct hire as well but only if the relevant role you want is available.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was alot of us placement students across the UK, we all kept in touch through a large group chat but then had more group chats according to which site you worked at. We organised several outings throughout the years and socials even with our summer placements as the more was the merrier. During the lockdown phase, we held bi-weekly pub quizes!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As my placement was outside of London and in Surrey, i decided to live at home and commute everyday to my office so i didnt really experience the cost of living in the area. However, to socialise they were some good pubs near by and they were quite expensive and were a drive away with no ubers!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Unfortunately, there was no nightlife in the area which my primary location was based. This was based outside london so it would mean we would have to go to clapham to go out. However, once you were in London, you were spoilt for choices whether you wanted to go to a club or just some cool bars!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a weekly drinks every thursday for everyone in the office to go to and get to know each other as a default. We organised different events such as ice skating, junkyard golf, flight club and bounce ping pong to mix things up and explore activities to do in London after work.
