    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my internship with Universal Pictures. It was clear that NBCUniversal make sure that their staff are well cared for and supported throughout the year. The Early Careers team were excellent in creating a social network between the interns, holding multiple social events as well as creating a team challenge for us to take part in. I have learnt so much about Digital Marketing and have had the opportunity to network with various departments within the company. It has been an amazing start to a career in film.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team were extremely welcoming from Day 1. I was always invited to team socials and lunches, which enabled me to get to know my colleagues well. I received recognition for work that I did as well as a number of different opportunities that focused on my development. It has been great working in a team that has my best interest at heart and is focused on helping me develop skills.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were excellent at providing support and guidance. They set me targets for the year which focused on a number of different areas such as social platform training, social copywriting, data strategy and project management opportunities. I always felt like I could ask questions when I needed and they also helped to guide me in future career opportunities.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Yes everyday involved doing different things. The company holds a number of different meetings which you can go to and learn more about different film campaigns. I always had admin tasks to do but I was also set a number of different projects to get on with throughout the year. There were some days that were busier than others but I always had something to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility working on the team budgets for campaigns. I enjoyed being able to take charge of this as it was my own and have become the go-to person for vendors and the team when they have questions on invoices etc. I wasn't given too much responsibility on campaigns but I did have opportunities to create my own briefs to agencies.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt so much about the film industry throughout this internship which has helped to set me up for a career in the film industry. I have received training on different applications and systems, as well as the opportunity to take part in different courses which I can receive a qualification at the end. These are all skills which will benefit me in my future career.

Everyone works very collaboratively and inclusively so you know you can always ask for help and support hen you need it.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From arrival the Early Careers team were very helpful and organised multiple events for all internships to join. This helped everyone to build a great social network and meet people from across the company who they might not normally have had the chance to. The team organised screenings, careers events and office tours which were great opportunities to learn more about the company.

  • Future employment prospects within the organisation are very appealing and I would love the opportunity to continue working for NBCUniversal as they treat their staff really well and I have thoroughly enjoyed working for them. The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The Early Careers team put a lot of effort in creating a great social environment for the interns. They set up a number of social events where we could get to know each other, which led to us creating our own events. Within my team we always had nice lunches for birthdays and celebrations so it was also a great social scene there too!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living for me wasn't too expensive as I was lucky that I could live at home. However I had to pay £400 for a train ticket per month. Socialising in London can be quite expensive, especially in Covent Garden but you learn to budget pretty quickly and where the best deals are!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife of London is great, there are lots of pubs and bars near the office which you can go to after work. It can still be expensive to go out because it's London but most clubs and bars you can get good deals. Lots of colleagues went out together to the pub after work.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There weren't that many opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work. There are a few running clubs and yoga available which you can join as well as an office football team. However there could be a lot more opportunities for activities as it is a large company with lots of people!
