    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • We were given a brilliant overview of the sector in the first couple of days before going into the business so we understood what we were being taught once we were shadowing. In these "lectures" on the first two days we had some really important figures in RBS presenting so we could really get a feel for the company.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone I met was keen to answer any of my questions and many people gave me their cards so that I could contact them if I had further questions.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The HR team were always there if we needed to ask them anything, they were so friendly and very approachable.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We had so many different experiences throughout the week ranging from listening in on the morning trade call to late night social events. We were perfectly busy and got a real feel for the buzzing city life.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • But we were in no place to have responsibility!! We were being taught about the business and couldn't have any responsibility as the workings of the bank were so new to us.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • People that I have met since the internship have already noticed how much more confident I am. I learnt a lot about networking skills. I know have a much greater understanding of the workings and the different operations in investment banks, something that will help me a lot in pursuing a banking career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Absolutely buzzing. Everyone clearly enjoyed their jobs and were working really hard. They still had time for our questions and were very pleasant to talk to. Everyone at the business seemed to get along and work as a team really well.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • RBS clearly have a very experienced HR team. The lectures and activities ran very smoothly and our understanding of the industry was developed in a very rounded fashion.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They put a lot of time into my education that week. I spoke to a lot of very senior team members who are clearly very busy people.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am really hoping to continue in the RBS graduate recruitment process, subject to my assessment centre result.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I got on so well with most of the people on the scheme. We were all like minded and motivated people and thoroughly enjoyed each others company. Although after work I generally did some reading up on the industry, on the final evening we had a good after party and I know that I will stay in contact with many of the people that I have met this week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • We didn't have that much time for socialising. Clearly London isn't a cheap place, but our accommodation was paid for and we got breakfast and lunch most days. Also, drinks were free at the social events in the week. The cost was therefore minimal.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • On the final evening the graduates organised a drinks event in a local bar. It was a brilliant bar and loads of fun.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Most nights the other people on the course met up to socialise and on two evenings in the week we had social events to go to.
